The TIE fighter was evaluated for the point defense interceptor mission... Three Part I and five Part II deficiencies were identified... The extremely short range of the TIE fighter will prevent pursuit of spacecraft equipped with hyperdrive and is a Part I deficiency.

I'd be writing flight test reports pointing out all the deficiencies with the design-by-committee Empire spacecraft

Flew into O'Hare a few weeks ago from the UK. Felt like taxiing to the terminal took longer than the flight.

The Orchard by Joan Shelley comes to mind... "They're burning orchards, fig and olive, trying to claim the roots They're digging for a legacy, a claim to land that's proof But who belongs to rock and farm when bombing fast and loose? You hear the ground below resound, the cracking land abused"

@inrange.tv Any chance of a historical vignette here before it's too late?

Can you upgrade that key? I was able to salvage an old Win7 Ultimate key and upgrade it to Windows 10 and then 11.

Wait, so when my 9th grade English teacher said "If you ever become a lawyer, I'm going to put you on retainer (complimentary)," she really meant "If you ever become a lawyer, I'm going to put you on retainer (derogatory)"?

Check out some of @inrange.tv's stuff, particularly Karl's historical vignettes of marginalized communities using firearms to defend themselves.

Serious question: why has the use of Microsoft Word persisted in the legal profession? For an industry that generates troves of formal documents on simulated paper, with dozens of very specific references, footnotes, cross-references, etc., it seems that LaTeX/BibTeX would be the standard.

And just to add, glad everyone is okay! Props to the pilot for getting everyone on the ground safely.

Even in a full auto, you can trade a bit of airspeed to (briefly) reduce rate of descent, which is how you flare at the bottom to cushion the landing. But it's a delicate balance! Figuring out the optimum flare altitude and airspeed in the OH-58C was a fun exercise at test pilot school.

I really tried to avoid this, but I'm in need of help. I'm a year and a half out of full time work, and my retail gig alone can't keep me afloat. My October expenses are going to be much higher than normal. I'm offering sketch comms over on my ko-fi for donations. thank you ko-fi.com/hanoodles

In case anyone was wondering this is how the USCG professionally disables narco smuggling vessels without loss of life. Or at least used to. That was just a wholesale murder in international waters.

I walked past Jim Lovell's name every day of the most difficult, trying, and exhilarating 11 months of my life. Each name on every plaque was an inspiration, but Jim's especially reminded me of perseverance and determination. Blue skies and tailwinds Captain James Lovell, and thank you.

A photo of the United States Naval Test Pilot School Class 20 graduates plaque from August 1958. Lovell, J. A., Apollo 13 commander, is at the top of the second column of names.

When I moved to rural Tennessee (from Maryland) as a teenager, I had to explain to the Baptists that "god damn it" was not taking the lord's name in vain. It's a prayer. It is asking god to damn something. I didn't have very many friends.

At this time of day on July 2, I’m drawn to think of the several thousand US troops spread out in an ever thinning line along Culp’s Hill, on the US right. All afternoon, units have been pulled from this position to bolster the left flank - Little Round Top, the Wheatfield, and Cemetery Ridge
