I always enjoy the speculation at this time of year but they never seem to guess right. Much as I love Anne Carson it would be great to see Can Xue finally win.https://www.theguardian.com/books/2026/oct/07/anne-carson-and-can-xue-favourites-to-win-nobel-prize-in-literature

Anne Carson and Can Xue favourites to win Nobel prize in literature
The Canadian poet and Chinese experiment writer are the bookmakers’ favourites to win, with Haruki Murakami, Gerald Murnane and Margaret Atwood also in the mix

Popped into the Bodleian Library birds exhibition yesterday. This postcard shows some of the 'climmers' who, before it was banned, collected the eggs of seabirds to eat or sell on to London hotel restaurants.

Love these maps, although they can be hard to use when it is windy. I found it useful to have two small helpers on hand when we had an Árann family holiday.

I dug this out - quite nostalgic. I’d forgotten about the cartoon. I can see from the tour dates listed that I saw Armitage, Maxwell and Paterson at Waterstones on 17th May. Cost was £2.

Also just reread Annie Dillard’s essay: ‘Seeing a partial eclipse bears the same relation to seeing a total eclipse as kissing a man does to marrying him, or as flying in an airplane does to falling out of an airplane. Although the one experience precedes the other, it in no way prepares you for it’

Remembering how impressed I was by David Hockney's photographic collages which I saw when I was 16 at the Hayward Gallery (it was showing alongside a Raoul Dufy retrospective). I would love to have tried this method myself but photographs were too expensive to print like this (still are!)
