Claude Sonnet 5.5 New Sonnet model from Anthropic today. They say it "runs 30%+ faster, and costs up to 30% less for most work" - it's priced the same as Sonnet 5 but appears to beat it on every benchmark, and should be cheaper to run as well. Here are some pelicans riding bicycles. Sonnet 5.5 suffered from the same bug as Opus 5.5: the "max" thinking effort pelican thought for 128,000 tokens (at a cost of $1.28) before running out of tokens and failing to produce an SVG. Why You're Getting Zero Replies To Your Cold Emails
The best outbound starts before you automate anything. Founders need to learn who actually has the problem, what gets their attention, and what makes them reply. YC Visiting Partner Christina Gilbert recommends doing at least your first 100 outreaches by hand so you can learn those things yourself. Drawing from her experience generating and closing millions of dollars through founder-led sales at OneSchema, Christina shares eight ways founders can improve their outbound, from targeting the righ

Why The Harness Matters More Than The Model | YC Paper Club
Harnesses get dismissed as just scaffolding, just prompt engineering, and not real research. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. The same model weights that score 30% on ARC-AGI score 95% with a better harness. So we gathered a group of researchers and founders working at the frontier to do a deep dive into the state of harnesses. We'll cover how we got to this point, the case for making your harness as expressive as possible, and what YC learned building an agent for every employee i

Introducing GPT-6 Astra for developers Blink and you'll miss it, but there's a familiar creature at 1m59s: Across the board, Astra has more attention to detail, better understanding of the user's prompt, and can build more sophisticated outputs. In particular, it excels at building 3D models. I've seen it make incredible renderings of gardens, shipyards, animals, cityscapes, even Dyson spheres. qwen 3.8 27b generates pelicans from a prompt about prompt. missing the point of the prompt
simonwillison.net
Qwen 3.8 27B is excellent, but it defaults to wildly overthinking things
Friday's big release was Qwen 3.8 27B, an Apache 2 licensed 27B parameter vision-capable LLM from Alibaba's Qwen research lab. I've been looking forward to this one: 27B is an excellent size for running a model on a reasonably specced laptop, and its predecessor Qwen 3.6 27B was impressive. Qwen's self-reported benchmarks for this model are eye-opening. They show a boost from both Qwen 3.6 27B and the closed-weight Qwen 3.7-Plus, which was one of Qwen's strongest models of any size as recently

DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 (on OpenRouter) The latest DeepSeek Pro model is now available, via API only. I had to link to OpenRouter because DeepSeek don't have any obvious announcement page for their new model. I haven't been able to confirm if they plan to release the open weights, but given the weights are available for both April's deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V4-Pro and July's deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 it seems likely. Auto mode is now the default in Claude Code for Pro, Max, and Team plans Anthropic are really confident in Claude Code's auto mode, to the point that they are making it the default setting for new sessions in most Claude Code plans starting on August 14th. This was one of the topics discussed in our Fireside Chat with Cat Wu and Thariq Shihipar at the AI Engineer World’s Fair last month. I asked them how they run Claude Code safely within Anthropic (given the threat of prompt injection) and the

My comment on Now we have a timeline of the OpenAI accidental attack against Hugging Face — Hacker News.I think one of the most interesting details here might be tucked away in that first bulletin point: May 7: OpenAI starts a new training run for an experimental, unreleased model. (Do they mean an evaluation run? They say training run in the video, and later mention a “reward signal to judge how well they’re doing”, so I guess this really was about training a model, not evaluating one th
