The project was also a practice research focusing on experimental approaches to messy humanities data with a special emphasis on visualising absence, GLAM data re-use, and on web archive awareness and access.

The exhibition was built around a mind-blowing centrepiece commission, Digital Ghosts, created by Dorsey Kaufmann. feelingdata.studio/digital-ghos...

But everything stays on the web, right? Wrong! We used creative approaches to web archival metadata to show the insane scale of web decay, the gaps in online representation, the power of platforms, and the inevitable archival bias embedded in the more-than-heroic web archiving efforts.

On paper, it sounded like a crazy idea, but the team smashed it! It was a superb collaboration involving archivists from @natlibscot.bsky.social , artist Dorsey Kaufmann, and students from @edfuturesinstitute.bsky.social . Check it out here: inspace.ed.ac.uk/digital-ghos...

Missing from the coverage of redundancies at Edinburgh: this was done in such a haphazard, uncoordinated way, there are now core teams who have gone from 5 people to 1 with no change in workload or pressure and huge loss in knowledge of institutional process. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2576321...

I'm organising this panel discussion for the (ex)Turing Humanities and Data Sciences group. Successful project owners will discuss the past and future of merging STEM and SHAPE disciplines. Book via the link to join us either in-person in Oxford (the Bodleian is quite a venue tbh) or online.

I'm going to talk about what can go wrong when the method and its hermeneutics do not match and what it tells about hidden boundaries in interdisciplinarity, black-box software in DH, bad codes, and emotions in medieval dark heritage reviews. And wish me good luck with my 5.25AM flight.

I’m incredibly honoured (and honestly quite stunned) to have been asked to be a keynote speaker at the 9th Digital Humanities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries conference. dhnb.eu/conferences/...

‼️New paper alert ‼️TL/DR: To make the preservation worthwhile, we should think of #webarchives both as data and as a creative engagement resource to ensure access and usability. What helps with this is not the collection itself but its metadata. openhumanitiesdata.metajnl.com/articles/10....

The historian and the gerund 😂so true, Susan Pedersen @londonreview.bsky.social .(Slim for Britain, 23 jan 2025, p.27.)
A newspaper cut discussing the historian’s obsession with gerund in book titles.
