"A poem reassembles what is scattered, says John Berger. In bits of image or impression, I look for intimacies. Perhaps a poem is a dispersed organism that seeks unity." Check out my new substack post; it is shorter, more lyrical than previous one. 🏹 🖤

Sometimes language falls away and the line that would be script becomes a sketch. Sometimes the moon is full and turbulent and there's nothing one can do but retreat to the quiet paper and leave behind unspoken marks.

I'm sketching to explore ideas for a series of larger works in acrylic and thinking about the connection between imagined and real spaces, and the idea of home. As an immigrant, I’ve spent my adult life thinking of home and what it means to make a home abroad.

Lately I’ve been revisiting some unfinished pieces. This one started as a watercolor skyscape I got stuck on about a year ago and set aside. When I picked it up again and turned the paper sideways, I noticed these two figures starting to emerge from the colors.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #766: Writing is a community. Participate in it if you can. Engage with other writers. Lift them up, and they’ll do the same. Try to go it alone, or treat other writers as rivals, and you’re more likely to sink than swim.
