I am sooo excited to be bringing a workshop that I just really love delivering - and takes me back to the foundation of why and how I started directing. It's a fun and playful workshop, that really challenges the meaning of text-based theatre. 🔥

I think #actorsgymglasgow is such an incredible and vital initiative. A safe space to give actors, a chance to be playful - remain fresh and sharp while also providing an opportunity to work & meet with other artists.

Rebecca needs no introduction, having played various roles on the West End and in NYC, while also having a successful Tv & Film career, playing roles in Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, The Crown, Falling for Figaro & Macbeth.

This show is the definitition of a Tour-de-force, and I'm delighted that Rebecca Benson is putting on her apron and turning the heat up, to bring Sabrina's words to life.

This is a gripping story of how one woman went from a haute cuisine head chef to a convicted inmate running a prison kitchen. CHEF premiered at the Edinburgh Festival 2014 to great critical acclaim. It won a Scotsman First Fringe Award and the production gained a Stage Award for Acting Excellence.

André Agius @andreagius.bsky.social · 15/02/2025

Apart from being a huge fan of Sabrina's work, I also genuinely think that CHEF is a masterful piece of writing. Chef is as poetic, as it is gripping, sharp and heartbreaking, and after a week of rehearsals, I can wholeheartidely say that there are only a few plays like CHEF.

I have been sitting on this for quite some time, so I'm so ecstatic to be announcing it! 🍑 When The Gaiety commissioned me to direct their mainstage Spring show, Sabrina Mahfouz's CHEF instantly came to mind.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - there has never been, and will never be a Lysistrata just like this one 🔥🍆🥳 Aristophanes would have fu**ing loved it. #bigliz #tartanarmy

Audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite football kits for this event. 👕 Adapted and Directed by André Agius, after Aristophanes │ Together with the Company #noscotlandnoparty #getreadyforbigliz #theclique

With its risqué humour, vibrant battle of the sexes, and themes of war and peace, Lysistrata remains as daring and thought-provoking today as it would have been for its original audience in Classical Athens. 🏛🍆

So while all the men of Scotland are off to have the fight of their lives in Germany at the EUROs - Scotland is quiet, & the women of Scotland suddenly realise that there is more to life than taking care of their husbands & raising the bairns, and so they start plotting the start of a rebellion.. ✊️🤼‍♀️

André Agius @andreagius.bsky.social · 24/01/2025

Lysistrata is the most notorious of Aristophanes' comedies, and this adaptation is unlike any other Lysistrata that has come before. Transporting the action from Greece to Scotland and from 411BC to 2024 - The men of Scotland are off to fight the War with the army... The Tartan Army. ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Lysistrata will be the first play, that I've put my name on as both adaptor & director; what a privilege it's been up to now! More importantly, I couldn't have asked for a more warm, open & generous company to do this with They embraced the play, world & vision for it, and absolutely ran with it! 🍆

End of Week 1 🍆 This will be the first show that I've ever adapted while directing at the same time. Together with the Company, it's been a thrill bringing this antique into the 21st Century I'll say it again, THIS Lysistrata is going to be unlike any other that has come before #BIGLIZ #letmecook

000

André Agius @andreagius.bsky.social · 06/01/2025

Lysistrata - Day 1 This is going to be crazy. And unlike any other take or adaptation of Lysistrata that's ever been done before. Hint: this is our tagline "The Rebellion is on - and not even the Tartan Army can do anything about it." 😉🍆🤼‍♀️ Aristophanes is turning in his grave as we speak. Good.

Book covers and tarot readings 🔮 #kidlit #illustration

Children's YA book cover illustration with a fortune teller - a character from the series of Irvin Vella Virtual Investigator. The character is wearing multiple accessories, large hoop earrings, multiple necklaces and one with a crescent moon. She is showing the reader the tarot cards from her reading. She is surrounded by a pinkish fog or smoke and lit in an ominous-looking light.
