Andrea Red @andrea.red · 24/07/2026I feel that investors may prefer short-term gains over creating long-term value. You don't get flashy new features or attract new customers just by refactoring code (but if you really care about the future of your product, you should do it). That's what I meant with my previous message. 120
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 23/07/2026I think you need to be brave enough to stop working on new features for a while, and fix the underlying mess that users don't see. But that feels hard if your company is backed by investors. 220
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 13/07/2026You mention Coke as an example, but they're also losing that simplicity, at least in Europe. Coke is ditching the black color from Zero, probably to gradually make it the "default Coke" and avoid high taxation due to its sugar content. 060
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 06/04/2026Wow, I've never seen level 2.5 in real life! Teletext is still huge in Italy, but our public broadcaster decided, many years ago, that they would stick to level 1.5. I think the reason was that some receivers had some broken 2.5 features, so they didn't want to risk it. 060
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 25/01/2026I've switched to @linuxmint.com on my desktop and now I wonder if I should do the same with my Intel Mac 😏 030
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 25/01/2026macOS tries to "protect" you all the time, when in fact it's just a way to keep you inside of Apple's walled garden. And don't even get me started on the new Liquid (Gl)ass style. 000
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 25/01/2026Good luck with your first app review. Don't get disappointed if your app gets rejected at first! 000
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 11/01/2026I think the 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' example is a bit skewed, because contestants generally use that lifeline in the early, easiest questions. Also, no Google access for the 'phone-a-friend' lifeline anymore, at least in the UK version :) 210
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 06/12/2025I've always felt that this happens when a company buys another company, and they're forced to keep the local brand name everybody knows already. 000
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 18/11/2025I also use UptimeRobot and it's a bit sad that their uptime service depends on an external single point of failure. 110
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 18/11/2025Cloudflare is down again, bringing down half of the internet. It's scary how many services depend on one single point of failure. 041
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 07/09/2025Yeah, I don't know why it disappeared. They used to advertise it. I'm afraid it's going to be discontinued – but as of now it still looks maintained. 010
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 07/09/2025I like using AI embedded in my IDE, it's an advanced form of autocompletion/refactor tool. I think the Laravel team is trying to make it easy for AI models to pick up how they should behave when they write Laravel code. But I don't think it's a good idea to "vibe code" a full app from scratch. 100
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 07/09/2025Laravel Spark is an official (paid) package based on Cashier+Paddle. You can use it as it is, as a complete billing portal, or study its source code to see how the Laravel team implemented it! 210
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 26/08/2025100% agree. I almost feel "proud" for being a customer when I log into an account and I see that my current subscription has "Legacy" in its name. 110
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 07/07/2025Wow, I didn't know about the Option+Shift trick! TIL, thanks :) 010
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 05/07/2025I agree! I miss following him on that other platform which can't be named. 010
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 26/06/2025I think the restriction comes from the fact that CNAME can be the only record for a domain. Since the 2nd level domain also has other records (SOA, NS...), you can't use CNAME there. 110
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 24/06/2025Actually, there are differences. You can't set a CNAME record for your naked domain, but you can for "www". There are also security differences, such as that you can't restrict cookies for the naked domain, but you can do it for subdomains. 200
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 12/05/2025I think the real problem is using so many trackers that you need a consent banner. 120
Reposted by Andrea RedJason Cohen @asmartbear.com · 13/04/2025You never forget your first few customers. And the ones that stay with you for many years? They can’t know what their $49/mo meant to you. Everyone who bet on you early, in any form, holds a special place in your heart. 4312
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 12/03/2025Focus on your main product, ignore all secondary (and ultimately time-wasting) work. 120
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 06/03/2025Call me old-fashioned, but I use the currently maintained fork of Homestead. 010
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 05/03/2025I miss old-school GNOME. I've stopped using it after version 3 came out, I can't stand it now. 000
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 02/03/2025That's great! (I listed all those places because Europa-Park is conveniently in the middle) 030
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 02/03/2025If you ever go to Alsace, Switzerland or the south of Germany you should definitely visit Europa-Park! 130
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 02/03/2025Not super happy with the new Laravel 12 presets. The 2FA and devices list feature of Jetstream was super useful, and it's missing from the new starter packs. 150
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 01/03/2025My bad, you're right. They weren't working, even if they were on in my settings! But now I've reinstalled the app and they do work! Strange bug. Maybe it lost somr kind of sync with Firebase. 040
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 01/03/2025Having breakfast while reading the PDF version on my tablet. Yes, it works! :) 120
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 27/02/2025Yes, but I like using my tablet in landscape, so the side-by-side view should work great :) 110
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 27/02/2025I hadn't seen the PDF version; it looks neat! I'll try reading that on my tablet. 110
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 23/02/2025Okay, thanks for the insight! The whole current situation with US politics is horrible from my European point of view, so that doesn't surprise me. 010
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 23/02/2025It's that time of the year: Laravel 12 is coming out in a few hours! 020
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 23/02/2025What's wrong with the NYTimes these days? I was tempted to sign up for their trial version but I still haven't done so. So I'm curious. 000
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 07/02/2025Since I stopped using Twitter, I've been wishing Taylor would start posting here... 030
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 06/02/2025That's what you get when you stuff a whole browser in your app :( 020
Andrea Red @andrea.red · 03/02/2025You've got to work on your social media presence, time is running out and we're only halfway. 110
