Thinking again about word choice discourse in sex scenes. Not liking "folds" or "moist" because it's "icky". Personal preference is whatever, you can hate these words. Fine. However, sometimes the perceived "ick" of a word, I feel, can actually make scenes sexier. Depends on what you're going for.

I know it's not usual or even very good for a character describe their LI as "unattractive". But I've kinda done so. On purpose! He's not the main LI but it's very intentional in his character design that he's the most mid/average man ever. But that's what makes the other characters so into him.

I always just get to, "they have...a face." Nailed it 👍 I've started to try to pick out character descriptions more often when I read now. And it also helps to try and make a sim/character creator so I always have a reference image. Still difficult. But 100% a struggle

Also fun to note that I chose a specific line for both character POVs to reference and highlight the difference: "Lian was vain." Addie POV: "...this butch was vain." Angie POV: "The man was vain..." They're both correct about Lian's identity

Sex scenes are almost never "gratuitous" or "unnecessary." You learn things about characters and relationships during sex that you can't really learn any other way, such as whether they're into fisting.
