Text from essay: “We can all agree: the incentives are bad. Everywhere you look, people are being rewarded for doing the wrong thing. This has become the go-to diagnosis for every problem, from climate change to political polarization to scientific malfeasance—“sorry pal, you’ve got a bad case of the incentives.”

I don’t disagree with this analysis, exactly. Who could? It’s basically tautological. “People do bad things because they are encouraged and rewarded for doing bad things.” Well, why else would you do them?

My real gripe with this line of thinking is it implies that incentives should be obeyed, that it is normal or even noble to do so, and that is perhaps impossible to do otherwise. How could you be expected to break a rule, forego a promotion, or give up decimal of your grade point average, for the sake of—what? Doing the right thing?”

Author of essay followed that with a screenshot of tweet from @cavempty_ reading: “i lowk hate killing innocents but if the dark lord wills it that’s like my job”

Screenshot of text entry field on the linked comment form; it reads: There is no need to "warn" the public of any "trans content" before any broadcast media, if some people interviewed or depicted happen to be trans. It would be the same as warning people that the show contains interviews or depictions of straight, middle-aged white dudes. These are all just varietals of people, who are just having the lives they have, and I remember when it was espoused to the public *strongly* that being able to "put yourself in the shoes of someone else" was a significant public good that we should all be doing. That does not mean trying to understand the perspective of someone just like you who has a different car payment, or is dating someone you aren't, 'cause you already know that story, 'cause it's *your story too*. No, it emphatically means seeking understanding of and empathy for experiences that are not like your own lived one.

If anything, there should be public-funded ad campaigns to direct people toward these opportunities!

THIS is what you do when people are going to starve.
Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, a Democrat, said state employees “worked through the night” to issue full November benefits “to make sure every Oregon family relying on SNAP could buy groceries” by Friday.

Officials in Kansas, New Jersey and Pennsylvania also said they moved quickly to issue full SNAP benefits Friday, while other states said they expected full benefits to arrive over the weekend or early next week. Still others said they were waiting for further federal guidance.

Just a reminder that @tomsuozzi.bsky.social still sucks ass.
Rep Suozzi’s blathering is outlined in baby shit yellow in daily newsletter from NOTUS.org

From the campaign trail

Democrats test their tent: “If we are going to be a big tent, it can’t just be a big tent for the conservative part of the party. It also has to be a big tent for the liberal part of the party,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal told NOTUS’ Shifra Dayak about the Democratic hand-wringing over Zohran Mamdani, which is still very much A Thing weeks out from the election Mamdani is dominating.

The opposition: “Socialism has consistently failed to deliver real, sustainable progress,” Rep. Tom Suozzi said in a recent public non-endorsement. Other vocal non-endorsers include NY Democratic Party Chair Jay Jacobs. Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey published an op-ed last week expressly saying that there’s no room in the party for Mamdani.

What I sent to my MoC today.
Senator Padilla, Senator Schiff, and Representative Liccardo;

I can understand getting tied in a mental knot over voting for the Kirk Day resolutions (H.Res.719 & S.Res.391). They were constructed to be morally and emotionally fraught litmus tests by Rs, so they can label “monster” anyone who didn’t support them, and set the trap by combining condemnation of his murder (proper) with honoring his life and legacy (uh, no. hard pass).

I can understand that. But it’s also true supporting these measures was not the bravest thing you did this week and was stepping on a rake advertised by a neon sign and a mariachi band while the R sponsors helpfully held your hand.

I get that it’s a dangerous, scary time to be a member of Congress. The worst in a good long while, if not the worst ever given the technological capabilities in the hands of threat-tossing wackos; indeed, such wackos who are often members of law enforcement, as Senator Padilla experienced personally. But, men, this is the job today.

A day of remembrance for Kirk is a day of remembrance for someone who was LOUD about their anti-democratic, anti-American, racist, misogynist, homophobic, and transphobic ideas who was a fascist toady and a cultural accelerationist who died from that same accelerationism. He should not be celebrated for the bravery of his speech, though he was properly allowed to say his hateful little things. Yes, there’s precedent for bestowing such honors, sadly, across our history.

We don’t have to follow it. You didn't have to follow it. You should not have.

Please publicly renounce this support and vow not to step on this rake again. I suggest posting this to your Congressional websites. After that I’ll stop looking for your primary challengers.

Regards, your constituent,

Andan

IANAL but I don’t think I need to be to understand from like basic civics that this insane statement is entirely upside down.

From notus.org: Number you should know - 7.309 - That’s the number of votes that decided the House majority, according to Dave Wasserman of The Cook Political Report. Three districts (IA-01, CO-08 and PA-07) decided control of the chamber out of 148 million votes cast.

Angled top-down view of a mid-height A/V cabinet with sliding front doors across two levels of shelf. Atop are coiled and blue taped several loops of various kinds of cables. These are the sum complement of cables necessary to drive:
- A receiver
- PS4
- Switch
- gaming PC
- network switch for A/V cabinet devices
- 5.1 sound with dual-powered fronts
- TV (wall mounted above the position of the A/V cabinet)
- Air quality monitor

The cabinet is sitting on furniture sliders for ease of moving about by the moving crew while the flooring crew does their thing

Several things to think about in this article, but let's start with are Trump voters wondering why *foreign* leaders are getting the *American* cabinet picks *they* want? 🤔 This doesn't sound very America First, hrm...
AP News article snippet: Vought “brought him potential spending cuts” in the first administration, Short said, “that Trump wouldn’t go along with.” This time, Short continued, “maybe Elon and Vivek provide backup,” giving Vought the imprimatur of two wealthy businessmen.

“He will always calculate who has been good to him,” Short said. “You already see that: The unions got the labor secretary they wanted, and Putin and Assad got the DNI (intelligence chief) they wanted. … This is not so much a team-of-rivals situation. I think it’s going to look a lot like a reality TV show.”

Suozzi is right but not like that. Democrats need to stop being the party of decorum. The Rs are emphatically not learning from any decorous example that Dems are making. We can both: a) talk absolute shit about their bullshit b) obey laws and stuff Stop holding norms sacred. Some are bad now.
Twitter statement by Rep Tom Suozzi (D-NY-03), a moderate. He won his seat back by special election after George Santos was shitcanned by he peers from Congress.

“In this election, Americans have made their voice clear: Democrats need to focus more on issues Americans care about, like wages and benefits, and less on being politically correct. Moderate White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, union, non-union, and other voters fear that the world we live in and the values we live by are under threat, and Democrats have been too intimidated to speak up for the same values that many of us hold dear — the American Dream, public safety and a common sense of right and wrong among them.

Many Americans are simply afraid of "the Left" more than they are afraid of what President Trump will do. While some Democrats effectively responded to Republican's claims of chaos at the Southern border, we still ceded too much ground to the Republicans on an issue we could have won. And we failed as a party to respond to the Republican weaponization of anarchy on college campuses, defund the police, biological boys playing in girls' sports, and a general attack on traditional values.

Going forward, we need to make the case every day that we will fight to give everyone a fair shake and that America is for everybody. We cannot get wrapped around the axle by our base and resistance politics.”
