David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 06/07/2025Just received the book and started reading it. This will be a great read. I highly recommend this to anyone else interested in Christian descriptions on the last surviving Pagans on the margins of Europe. 110
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 04/04/2025We can translate Minoan Linear A now along with the longer Phaistos disk and slight later texts from Serabet el-Khadim. David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 23/03/2025Too bad the text is not readable because Linear A has been deciphered. Its just the nationalist old guard does not want to admit it because of what it means. www.druidwisdom.org/druid-rune-t... 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 12/03/2025Its older than that. As NK this same Akkadian word is found on the European runic texts coming from the Neolithic farmer language (who migrated out of northern Mesopotamia). It is the source of the English word "naked" due to proximity in space and time. www.academia.edu/127047369/Dr... 010
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 09/03/2025Amazing proof of correlation between eggs and a pomegranate. These cultural clues are more important in my opinion then treating this simply as art. 020
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 06/03/2025Actually it is Skadi as indicated by the label on this pot from Etruscan Vulci. The other side also shows Skaldi with Druid Akkadian text. Etruscan studies have been polluted by Greek assumptions. French National Library Number: De Ridder.920a. 021
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 01/03/2025Trump and his minions are a disgrace to the free world and the United States. 020
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 26/02/2025Well done! The past is Pagan. The translations of the runic texts will give future Pagan scholars a ton of new material to chew on. The point about being trapped in the monotheistic paradigm is true. Just describing Paganism as polytheistic instead of perceptheistic is an example of that. 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 18/02/2025Yes, this is deeper than politics, it is cultural. This reflects the religious dualism the West inherited from Zoroastrianism and which then found its way into Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (good versus evil). Only nature Paganism incorporates the middle ground from ancient times up to now. 020
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 08/02/2025Minoan Linear A is in Akkadian as are all the runic texts around Europe. This is the language of the Neolithic farmers and hundreds of those texts have already been translated and its dictionary published. Akkadian words are even found in English. Translations at www.druidwisdom.org 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 29/01/2025Initially words were not separated by spaces. This era was the time of transition during which spaces were becoming standard. Other common separation mechanisms were colons and dots. I also don't think we should assume it is a boundary marker without a good translation. 110
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 28/01/2025I don't know. This seems to be Latin "An ab estas" meaning "are you from here?" 100

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 20/01/2025Probably neither. Wings indicate a sky-shell level deity, non-classical due to clothing, disk is likely the sun so this is a representation of a sun god having some sort of problems. 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 13/01/2025No, its just too clunky compared to specialized games meant to do that sort of thing. Jousting, shooting arrows, flying dragons around an obstacle course are good though. 010

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 06/01/2025Yes, The Roman church could not stand that the Irish church remained independent from their control. As far as I can tell the Roman church only got that control after the Norman/English invaded Ireland. 010

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 06/01/2025So it was Tertullian who began the false identification of magi with kings. I suspect he wanted to end the tradition that Jesus was involved with ancient magic. Interesting. 110

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 03/01/2025That is really interesting! I have not appreciated that contemporaries so strongly differentiated the "mystery cults" from the standard royal deity pantheon. 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 03/01/2025This should be interesting! They had a day or two to evacuate and those on the beachfront at Herculaneum were still in the process when the pryoclastic flow hit. 020

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 02/01/2025Great survey. If I am reading it right, the decline of these ritual figurines seems to correlate with the arrival of the Indo-Europeans in the area around 3000 BCE. 000

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 30/12/2024Nationalism is the curse of many things. This sort of Anglo-Saxon and Celtic Paganism is medieval and is based upon bardic tales and not the older European wide Paganism of earlier eras as described in the runic texts. 020

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 28/12/2024I never said Celtic is Akkadian. Celtic is a linguistically defined culture which mixed the original Neolithic farmer culture with the invading Indo-Europeans. Texts mistakenly identified as being their the supposed Celtic language are Akkadian however. 000

David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 28/12/2024Why do you say that? They were speaking something and they came out of the Akkadian language homeland. Akkadian is found in Europe in the runic texts so if they did not speak it how did it get into Europe? 100
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 27/12/2024Firstly, Latin is not pure Indo-European and derives from languages going further back in time. How is "up-lead" like educate? My next Akkadian dictionary will change "edu" slightly to meaning motivation because that is the best fit to its sentence use. So educare derives from motivating something. 100
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 27/12/2024So because you can't attack the evidence you resort to personal attacks just to preserve your dogmatic belief. Interesting. 100
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 26/12/2024The semantics are good. Why do you think everything in Europe derives from Indo-European when we know the Indo-Europeans interacted with the Neolithic farmers? 300
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 26/12/2024Yes, a dark day. Journals used to be like this with boards of older respected members of the field who where not all that active in research anymore so who could impartially judge submissions. Now they are just another profit making center for large conglomerates. 000
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 26/12/2024Seems to be 2 separate pathways for Akkadian phrase ŠN.TR šenû.taru meaning "ooze of transformation" as in what oozes out during a fire. So the original meaning would also include smoke. The /Š/ is like an /sk/ sound. 100
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 26/12/2024I am partial to Paul Whitewick's theory that they are talking balls for holding in your hand when talking before an assembly. David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 25/12/2024This Academic specialization is worrisome, as is the pressure to jump onto the latest hot specialized trend to get funding. The best general and up to date integrative history these days is being done on YouTube by non-Academics. 100
David Olmsted @ancientlinguist.bsky.social · 23/12/2024I don't think the vu combination appears in Latin. I am skeptical of abbreviations unless the phrase is a standard one or the abbreviation appears on a coin. Therefore, I suspect it is Akkadian. UM EN N . Y .
