Hii. I have this question to ask and no one to ask it to since RevPit is over. If I m doing a fantasy retelling of Alice in Wonderland, am I allowed to use actual quotes from the books in my novel (as Easter eggs)since it s been published in 1871? I've been afraid to copyright my book bc Im not sure

I ve looked through some books, but i haven t seen the short vs long sentences distinction, although i ve heard about it and sometimes I felt that I could rephrase some sentences but it wouldn t make much difference probably, and having just short sentences for one character would sound odd

Speaking faster doesn't seem like something that can be conveyed by the pov, but rather something conveyed by a dialogue tag, unless it's by making sentences sound more urgent?

Hii. What's the easiest way to make povs distinctive when writing in dual pov (girls, but not love interests)? Thank you for taking questions, i hope your kid feels better soon 💛

Wait, but what does that mean "breakdown of genres for traditional publishing print sales"? Genuinely shocked by how little YA books are. Is this how many YA books are sold in print in comparison to the other sections?

So I'm actually pretty anxious because I found your meettheeditor thread from last year andyou said you didn't like rural romance in contemporary Is this also true for historical/fantasy?My second POV character is a peasant girl who falls in love with a nobleman soldier-kinda love at first sight

Oh, God, I put my question in the first thread, sorry and thank you for still taking questions. Fairytale retellings (Alice in Wonderland low fantasy)? Dogs? Sicilian setting (it's based more on traditional games and songs, the history is fictional and i will have Sicilian sensitivity readers)?

I don't know if you re still taking questions, but in case you do: fairytale retellings (Alice in Wonderland low portal fantasy)? Dog in the story?

So what are the things that indicate a story's voice is developed? How can you tell in just one paragraph if the story has a strong voice?
110
anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
Would you choose a least voicey ms if the other elements on ur wishlist are met (character, sensory details, intrigue etc.)? Honestly, you were the first editor I chose and the only one where I knew from just the mswl that we could be a great fit.

anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 06/03/2026
Hii. Do you look at the question about why we chose you as an editor in all submissions? Your mswl overlaps with my book in a lot of ways (including folk songs) and I didn't include all of them in the query (but i could if you think i should). Also, how do you feel about dogs in stories?

Also, i see you have a lot of cats. I have a black tomcat as well and a black and white one, together with my dog (who likes sitting on tables sometimes). My story has a dog so I wondered how you feel about them?

Hii. How would you feel about a low fantasy retelling of Alice in Wonderland (the most fantastical thing is when the fmc falls into the rabbit hole, the set is not magical, but still whimsical) on a scale from one to five?

Hii. I saw you said you liked non-Western settings, but how do you feel about a Sicilian-inspired setting? A fairytale retelling? And which do you prefer: 1st pov versus 3rd pov?
100
anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 05/03/2026
Ty, you've been so nice♡ My ms is not that long so it might be easier to browse, but the chapters are generally pretty short so I think it would actually take longer to make chapter by chapter feedback (there are 81 chapters, dual pov), but if you are willing to do it, then i'm taking notes

anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 05/03/2026
Do you also leave comments through the whole document? I saw some of the editors do, but I didn't understand if you do too

Thank you soo much ♡♡♡ Fun fact: I was waiting last night (because when you started it was 11 pm where I live) for your session to begin. I kept refreshing the page for 17 minutes before I saw that your meet the editor post was below the post with the schedule table :))

Also, how do you feel about dogs? I read your pickier when it comes to retellings. Mine is an Alice in Wonderland reimagining, but aside from the falling through the rabbit hole thing there's little overlap. It's whimsical, but not heavy on magic. Do you think that could be a fit for you?
120
anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
Hii. Your ms wishlist overlaps with my book (portal fantasy, dialects), but some of your editing style (seeing the ms from a different angle, making big changes) doesn't really align with my style. Do you think we could meet on middle ground? I mean i like brainstorming and weaving new details in
120
anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social @anawriteroffantasy.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
Thank you so much. I was very anxious about it as we can only choose three editors I wanted to make sure it's something you could enjoy. Have a nice day!

Yes, in fact the dog is what sets the plot in motion (it's going to be stolen and the book is about the lengths the owner goes to get it back), but the dog per se appears only at the start, the end and in a few memories and dreams throughout the book. Is it still a yes?
