I continue to be in awe of the way solidarity happens. I'm grateful James' reporting and time here centered the experience of the Tribal communities who were facing a much larger fire with much less attention than Spokane was getting.

It's already been wild year before the literal fires started. I'm getting to meet incredible people and being offered places to speak, but it's all because terrible things keep happening to my friends. I hope this interview inspires you to think about how to ready yourself to be a helper.

Trump wants to make an example out of the Prairieland defendants, so we need to make an example out of them in the opposite way. We need to hold them close and not let the state claim they are the "bad protestors" who fought against fascism "inappropriately."

You can tell if a movement is serious by whether or not it abandons its prisoners, especially the "messy" ones. If Trump-era political prisoners are not released after he is removed from office, then the specter of Trump will not be gone.

The facility is shared with HSI, and Burlingame says its an "under 12 hour detention center." "In reality we don't like to keep people longer than 6 hours." There's limited bathroom facilites, no showers or hygiene capabilites. (FACT CHECK: they've held at least one person for 26 hours)

There is a guy standing and watching on the sidewalk as the agents walk by. Three agents walk by without engaging. LaForte (who is not in tac gear) knocks the guy's cap off as he walks by. Tomaso said he saw it.

George is saying they called 911 and someone in the building directly called the Sheriffs. Tomaso said yes.

SPD said no on coming when there was just 20-30 people, Tomaso said. George keeps pressing him on how frustrating this was. If we would've had additional resources at the beginning then I think a lot of this could've been avoided, Tomaso said.

You can hear a protester saying calmly, "They're not criminals, they just want to be safe, just like you." Then chanting begins "Let Them Go," "I believe that they were essentially demanding we release the detainees." Tomaso said. He claims they couldn't release the detainees.

Law enforcement are trained to be so fear based they cannot comprehend what a vulnerable and disciplined commitment to nonviolence looks like. They cannot handle that we are more skilled at not hurting each other than they are, and they only see us as threats. The tool they have for fear is fists.

The full quote here was "We don't have to wait to get punched in the face. We meet force with greater force, it's how we train." I particularly wish we could have stitched that with guidance protestors were given of “Can you take a punch without returning one? If not, do not join the line.”

"The purpose is to be stronger .. when they link arms with more people it's harder to move them." If Archer was alone, Tomaso would have been able to move them. He did "move" Archer at one point, and couldn't anymore after they linked arms.
