I find it striking to realize that I had already encountered this problem empirically; and had even acknowledged the difficulty of measuring the construct, but had not yet fully considered what this divergence might mean for the definition of impulsivity itself. #addictionsci #psychology

Interestingly, the results diverged across these measures. What I had not fully pursued was the epistemological question: do these measures capture different manifestations of the same construct, or distinct processes that we have learned to group under the label “impulsivity”?

My solution at the time was to treat impulsivity as a multidimensional construct and assess it through multiple methods: the UPPS-P for self-reported impulsivity facets, the Stroop task for inhibitory control, and the Iowa Gambling Task for decision-making.

During my master’s, I conducted an RCT investigating the effects of Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention on impulsivity among people receiving treatment for substance use disorders. As I worked through the literature, I encountered mixed findings and considerable variation in the literature

Today I came across a commentary by @eikofried.bsky.social and @orestiszavlis.bsky.social (link: osf.io/rdmk5/), which prompted me to revisit an article from my master’s research (link: doi.org/10.1371/jour...).

Cannabis research often focuses on frequency/severity. But product type may also matter. In our new open-access paper, we found that hash-only and multiple THC-dominant product use were associated with poorer sleep quality than flower-only use among near-daily users in Denmark.

That could be an option, but more broadly I am wondering whether they would accept responses in languages other than English. I ask because I am sure I could circulate it within my network in Brazil, though I am not sure whether that would make sense, since their replies are in Portuguese.

Our newest pub is out! Here, we used EMA to examine the moment-to-moment association between drinking and subsequent problems, and if emotional functioning changed the strength of this prospective relationship among a hazardous drinking sample of young adults. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/author...
