It was due, they couldn't call Switch 2 a console incompatible with the previous one. Now, people expect its positioning on the market to not change, so the same 299 price tag. That's necessary to maintain its leadership over Sony, Microsoft and Steam. Nintendo is for all (enthusiasts and casuals).

They better make it all right, it doesn't take much to lose the crown. Nintendo today is leader, because of it's aggressive pricing and good quality (except for the defective Joy-Con), it must stay that way. It must not end like with Deck and its clones.

Much depends on its price. If they target the premium market instead of the low end it's the end. Switch was 299 (low end). PS3 too was a terrible failure because of price (and it introduced Blu-Ray!).

I hope it for the sustainability of Nintendo's business. There are user groups were it simply would not sell for more. If Nintendo succeed there will be games, otherwise it will return to the outskirts of the gaming world with less games and consideration. Let's hope for the lowest price it can be.

299, good, high penetration. 349 high. 399 risky, low penetration. It's a low value package, 8 nm chip, IPS display, all plastic, and customers aren't stupid. At 399 say farewell to casuals and children. And to 50+ millions figures.
