I didn’t even get to the main point of the article: a much bigger dispersement—20 million Medicare enrollees—but a hilarious pittance: $90 to offset increased healthcare costs, which doesn’t even cover half the increase in Medicare premiums ($17/mo)! I am still laughing at ONE MILLION PEOPLE.

ONE MILLLLLIONNN dollars. I laughed! $500 is a decent bid at someone’s vote (not $5000, but still good) but to make a difference in any specific race you’d have to target exactly the right people, which I think would be 1) very difficult and 2) more obviously illegal.

Here's a story from the Times. It has a lot of interviews with consultants saying that there's an enthusiasm gap *for Talarico*, and then a paragraph admitting that this not a Talarico problem. Also, you know what's not in this piece? *Active voter suppression activity in Texas (and elsewhere!).*

Ana Marie Cox @anamariecox.com · 28/09/2026
All the coverage of Talarico's supposed "problems" with Black Tx Dems are anecdotes and vibes. Polling now shows him 20 points (20!) ahead of Beto *and Allred* with Black voters, so the metric is "enthusiasm," ignoring Black Dems' reliability at the polls. www.tpr.org/government-p...
from https://www.tpr.org/government-politics/2026-07-09/talarico-polling-stronger-with-texas-black-voters-than-expected-but-enthusiasm-questions-remain

In the end, though, it may simply come down to party loyalty. Blank
said history suggests Democratic support among Black voters tends
to consolidate as Election Day approaches.
"In all of that polling that we've looked at, over many election cycles,
the share of Black voters who support the Democratic candidate
tends to go up the closer we get to Election Day," he said.

These Fat Bear Week contestant write-ups are *intense.* explore.org/meet-the-bea...
806's caring nature does have limits. On July 28, 806 attacked, killed, and partly ate bear 909's spring cub.
The cub swam across the river while her mother fished in the river mouth. This placed her near the 806 family
and sparked their curiosity. After a few minutes the cub ran from the family, perhaps due to confusion about
her own mother's location or to escape to the safety of nearby trees. This triggered 806 to chase.
806's attack on 909's cub might seem incongruous with her adoption of Biggie just a few weeks before. The
adoption is evidence of 806's devotion and her behavioral flexibility. The fatal attack illustrates her ferocity
and predatory instincts. But these behaviors are not mutually exclusive. Variations of them exist in all mother
bears. They are honed through learned experience and initiated by circumstance. 806 is neither villain nor
hero. She's a bear, one who is fully capable of expressing great ferocity at the same time she is devoted and
caring. This is her first Fat Bear Week appearance.

Carlson attracts journalists because he caters to our egos. Not with compliments, but in
the way that a test that looks easy at first glance can make you feel smart. Carlson's baldly
grotesque ideology and the logical leaps in his conspiracy theories seem like trivial
challenges. Reporters are easily fooled into thinking they'll be the one to get him.
So while Carlson wears the Barbour jacket, it's legacy journalists who think they're the
hunters. They hope to get a bead on Carlson with a well-placed and meticulously
researched question. They hope to catch him in a hypocrisy trap. Some sincerely want to
capture him as a specimen, bag the beast and take him to the lab.

Kimmel is open and effusive about their thirty-year friendship, forged in the "Man Show"
era when they were both indulging in their immaturity. In recent months, he has spoken
at Carolla's Walk of Fame induction and shown up for Carolla's Vegas comedy set.
Kimmel's only reference to their diverging paths has been to note, "Adam and I, as you
probably know, don't agree much when it comes to politics, but I love him dearly."
If Kimmel is as good a friend to Carolla as he insists he is, then he should stop palling
around with his increasingly unhinged buddy as though their disagreements are merely
"political" in some vague technocratic sense. I do not imagine they sit around debating
changes in maritime law or the proper marginal tax rate. Speaking warmly about Carolla
at his Walk of Fame induction and showing up at Carolla's stand up is a normal way to
support a friend under normal circumstances. But Carolla's behavior has crossed a line.
He doesn't need someone to stand by him in public, he needs someone to perform an
intervention in private

Reading a good Dallas Express piece about shrinking newsrooms and AI--and how AI seems like a fix but isn't. Gasped at the numbers I already knew w/r/t the collapse of the industry. In 2026-to-2026 dollars, decline in ad revenue is from *92B* in 2005 to 9B today. dallasexpress.com/national/as-...
That support eroded as advertising and audiences moved online. Pew
Research Center's historical figures put U.S. newspaper advertising
revenue at approximately $49.4 billion in 2005, compared with an
estimated $9.8 billion in 2022. Those are nominal dollars; the decline was
already enormous without adjusting for inflation.

I was *genuinely* confused but found some context. And, while you don't have to hand it to him, making space for people forced into degrading sex acts is not the craziest answer! It is also an answer that Rs would react v differently to if a Dem FBI presented it. www.mediaite.com/media/news/k...
KENNEDY: You changed the qualifications and mentioned bestiality.
If, Joe, if Joe participated in bestiality, not as the animal, but as the
human, don't you think he ought to be disqualified?
PATEL: If he voluntarily did it? Sure. But if he was trafficked into it.
KENNEDY: OK. How do you involuntarily do it?
PATEL: In a lot of these cases, when human traffickers, who are some
of the worst individuals on planet Earth, they don't just traffic you for
prostitution, they traffic you for degrading acts of all kind, and they
force you into that type of conduct. And some of these individuals
would go on to be law enforcement officers who qualified to be law
enforcement officers and later applied to the FBI.

Al comes to rescue. This is where 65 million messages comes in handy!
Our machine learning layer identifies 86% of people at severe imminent
risk for suicide in their first conversations. The model, an ensemble of
deep neural networks, learned to predict risk of suicide from all
conversations tagged with "Suicide" by Crisis Counselors in a survey
taken post-conversations. The interplay of model predictions and real-
time feedback loop from Crisis Counselors is instrumental in retraining
the model. We're now positioned to service 94% of high-risk texters in
under 5 minutes.

Great details Ben Terris’s piece on Trump’s construction obsession. Rubio on the bananas things Trump puts visitors thruough: “he’s going to show them designs for the ballroom, he’s going to take them back to the gift room to, **he’s going to spray them with the cologne that he has** (!?)”
And yet even Trump's most loyal lieutenants will admit it can be something of a time suck.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told me late last year that when a meeting with a foreign leader is scheduled to end at 2 p.m., he assumes the timing is aspirational. "It's going to last until four," Rubio said. "Because he's going to want to show them the Walk of Presidential Fame, then he's going to want to show them the Cabinet, he's going to want to show them designs for the ballroom, he's going to take them back to the gift room to have them take whatever they want, hes going to spray them with the cologne that he has. He's going to invest four-to-five hours in that." Put another way, "it doesn't keep him from doing the things he needs to do," a former administration official tells me. "It's just instead of a 30-minute conversation, it's an hour-and-a-half conversation."

I'm convinced they just want free trips to DCOne morning in June, three paralyzed military veterans in wheelchairs from rural Pennsylvania arrived at the office of Sen. John Fetterman for a long-awaited meeting to discuss legislation that would improve their care.
Fetterman's staff greeted them with bad news: The Pennsylvania Democrat had to cancel. He'd told his staff he may have eaten something bad and wasn't feeling well, according to people familiar with the matter.
Less than an hour after his staffers met with the veterans in his place, Fetterman walked into his office, showing no signs of illness. He had an appointment he didn't want to miss, he told staff: an interview on Fox News to discuss Israel and the
war in Iran.

By this measure, you could say the Trump administration is “paying” Maggie Haberman, since having access to him “put her in a position” to write a best-selling book.
The mayor's office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes, and viewers watch longer.
