My advice to David Brooks is you really should shut the fuck up. The President is a Nazi, and his most ardent followers are Nazis, and it’s time that cowards like you wake the fuck up to that reality or go hide in a hole and let the rest of us deal with it since you and yours won’t or can’t.

Said one piece, not one picture, so yeah, not exactly something I’d tie myself in knots over. Anyway, cool camo. I always have trouble even envisioning the layered polygonal urban styles. I tend to just leave it at intersecting right angles, though mostly I’m working on Battletech, so 6mm, matters

What is the moral response to someone in your family abusing you for your entire life? The scale makes things different, the consequences of those choices more consequential, and seeing that doesn’t make it an easier question, but it’s the same question.

This is why I use a big, corporate, Linux distros instead of community maintained stuff. Sure, they are likely worse in a lot of aspects, but when something explodes, they're likely to get patches done and out there to users. It's also why I told people to stay with Windows or MacOS until recently.

Occasionally I just boil water and drink it like it was tea. Super common in China supposedly, and decent enough in winter when drinking a ton of tea isn't necessarily something I want to do.

Bird used to do the same kind of stuff. Unreal court awareness and the born arm coordination and soft touch that you need to be one of the great passers. Pitching is such a totalitarian arm motion compared to passing in basketball. That kind of power production is a negative on the court.

I just got into the hobby during lockdown, hated painting most of my life, turned out I had a knack for painting models. Making more than anyone wants to pay me for doing IT support at this point, and fewer people scream at me for no reason.

I paint miniatures to sell, so I’m a bit insulated from speculative trends (no one is lining up around the block to buy something I painted) but getting stock is getting harder and harder.

Dude, I went to MicroCenter a bit ago and there was a line near around the building for the Hobbit MtG set. I thought it was graphics cards but no, hundreds of people clogging the entire store waiting to buy 1 box each. Bizarre.

I sell stuff on eBay, so I’m constantly assaulted by the livestream previews there on a daily basis. Haven’t seen anyone famous enough I’d recognize, but the Pokémon ones are the ones I see the most of, and the bidding there is just gobsmacking. Hundreds and hundreds of $ for like 6 packs.

It’s a bit of the old live auctioneer performance, a bit of QVC, and mostly casino gambling. The TCG pack ripping livestreams are the purest form. Like watching a craps table, except the people who win are the ones that can get soaked and the losers are the lucky ones.

This also applies to Americans, no matter how much of a thrashing the Trump GOP gets in the midterms. Trump winning in 2024 quieted the ”national divorce” people because they thought Trump was going to give them everything they wanted. They’re going to come back with a vengeance.

You also run into resource problems on the patching end that attackers simply don't have. Every operating system with more than utterly trivial reach that doesn't disable user ability to prevent patches becomes Typhoid Mary. Extreme incentive to "exile" them to islands, or build seperate internets.

I'm one of those people that sets it up to clear all saved stuff when I close the browser (bar a couple exceptions), so I don't have that problem. But I don't like having to play the "hunt new stuff in settings I need to turn off".

When I had my studio space in the Lynn makerspace, one of the guys next to me bought broken appliances, repaired, and resold them. I'd never seen a fridge with a goddamned TV on it before then. Insanity.

YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won't even take Bleecker Street's calls. The distributor is appealing.

Just when I think I can’t hate OpenAI and Sam Altman any more, new details come out about how ChatGPT helped a shooter plan one of the worst mass shootings in Canadian history in Tumbler Ridge, BC. OpenAI made an explicit decision not to report the user to authorities.

OpenAI’s chatbot fed the shooter’s violent fantasies and planning up to the massacre.

Tainter also defines collapse as distinct from decline, mostly in the speed of the reduction in societal complexity. He’s looking at single generation speed.
020
analogline @analogline.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
What Tainter really focused on was available energy (defined fairly broadly) to implement solutions. Diminishing returns is the heartbeat drain on that energy for complex society, but you can delay by finding new energy, or speed up by preventing energy from being available to fix things.

Not sure why you'd trust that since a future captive Supreme Court could just say it doesn't count. Not saying you should trust simply stripping presidential trade powers, but it's something that could be demanded as a way to begin rebuilding trust, which again, no one should just do no matter what.

analogline @analogline.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Yeah, I get that. I mean demand that US law be altered to remove the various tariff imposition authorities that Congress has granted the President since...basically forever. No emergency trade/tariff powers, no ability to impose trade/currency sanction, no ability to ban trade, or what's the point?
120
analogline @analogline.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Any US ask for renormalization of trade after Trump ought to be met with a demand that all power to alter trade is stripped from the President or no deal. Saying this as an American.

Ain't no one hates the people that run the USPS more than the people that work there. I mail stuff all the time, and those that remain will talk if they have time. Long lines and they can't hire anyone. Back end distribution is screwed up. And their bosses most care that patrons take a damn survey.
