Started watching #Heartland and it's bringing on the nostalgia. I can almost feel the brisk Alberta air. Talked to my mom about missing hay baling, of all things! I could even go for mucking out a stall. 😭

A cartoon of a vampire with a shepherd's crook, herding ghosts like sheep. A crumbling old castle stands in the background. The vampire looks warily at a gathering storm overhead. The caption reads, "It was time to get the flock back to the castle."

Poor Dead Larry - a short #mystery for DS Jack Finkel, Unusual Crimes Squad. Continues here: egretia.com/2024/12/18/p...
Ding dong!
The old lady opened her front door. “Yes?”
“Hello, I’m Detective Sergeant Jacob Finkel, Unusual Crimes Squad. Are you Lorna? Did you report a haunting of your house?”
“Yes, thank you for coming, detective. It’s my poor Larry.”
“And Larry is?”
“My late husband.”
“Larry has come back to haunt you?”
“No. Well, yes, but that’s not what I meant. It’s been a while. Why don’t you come inside, and I’ll make us a cuppa? It might take a moment to explain, and I’m sure you’ll do your detecting better after having some tea.”

I’m writing a book about Coincidence. A nice one: The Stones recorded ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ in June ’68. They changed “Who killed John Kennedy” to “Who killed the Kennedys” when news came through, while recording, that Robert K. had been shot. From last year: www.theguardian.com/world/2023/a...
theguardian.com
Are coincidences real?
The long read: The rationalist in me knows that coincidences are inevitable, mundane, meaningless. But I can’t deny there is something strange and magical in them, too
