Honestly, I could write a whole piece about this painting in Jacob Wheeler's office in S2 of Halt and Catch Fire. It's not happening, because this series is already gonna be too damn long as it is. New piece on S2:E7-8 will be up at 2:00 PM. amywrensayswhat.com

Oh, hey, I created a writing app! It's called Carrel, and I'm really proud of it. I use it to manage and write everything, including my Halt and Catch Fire pieces and Sunday at the Matinee! It's now in Private Beta, so if you want to check it out request an account today. carrel.studio
The Carrel dashboard: a box to capture an idea, the next issue to write, counts of total / in-progress / published projects, and the upcoming schedule. The Today view: words written today against a daily goal, what's due today, and the stack of in-progress pieces ready to write. The view is show in dark mode, which can be set by the user.

There’s a lot you could say about these four movies, but you can’t say they aren’t varied.

After having put together full cast lists, I found a triple crown winner? It's actress Spencer Kayden, who was apparently a background actor in movies for all three directors early in the 2000s.
A screenshot of my website's Directors Connections page. The header is a dark red with white text and it reads:

Director Connections

Below that are two white panels on an off white background. The first includes a description that reads:

Pick two or more directors to find every actor who appeared in at least one film by each of them.

Below that are three rows with drop-down boxes that have these values

Director 1: Paul Thomas Anderson
Director 2: The Coen Brothers
Director 3: Wes Anderson

Below that is a button to add a director, and a blue button with white text saying "Find Connection"

The second panel shows the results.

The text reads:

(in bold) Actors in films by Paul Thomas Anderson & The Coen Brothers & Wes Anderson (end bold)
1 actor appeared in at least one film by each director.

Then below this is a table. The headers and rows are
Actor | Paul Thomas Anderson | The Coen Brothers | Wes Anderson

Spencer Kayden | Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, The Master | The Man Who Wasn't There, No Country For Old Men, Burn After Reading | The Royal Tenenbaums

Almost a hundred years of cinematic offices, similar yet oppressive in their own special ways. The Crowd (1928) The Apartment (1960) Office Space (1999) Andor (2022)
A shot of a seemingly endless set of workers at desks arranged in rows on a giant office floor. The shot is in black and white.A straight ahead shot of an office floor with workers at desks in neat rows going back for an impossibly long distance. Above them are fluorescent lights going back in neat rows for just as long. The shot is in black and white. A shot of a modern cubicle farm stretching back to the opposite wall in a similar fashion to The Apartment. This is in color, but it might as well be black and white from how devoid of meaningful color it has. It's as if this shot intentionally robs it of the elegant contrast of black and white.A shot of workers in identical cubicles. This is different from the other images, in that the the rows and columns are organized into squares, with elevated walkways in between them. It is in color, but those colors are gray and white. It tells you this is an authoritarian society without having to know any other details.

This is my Triple Crown, my 400 Batting Average, my very own white whale. Some actors have 2 of the 3. None have all three. Will someone eventually claim this title? Time will only tell.

The Section section reads:

Andor is a great show that created a bunch of excellent new characters and and made several existing characters so much better. But there’s only one character that made me sob.
A woman with brown hair tied back in a bun looks out a window during a hazy day. She is wearing yellow surgical scrubs over a gray top. She has a very serious look on her face. Outside across the way from the building she is in sits a large skyscraper.

For everyone up and about reading this: Once i’m done with Andor, I’ll probably take a break for a couple weeks. And then I’m going to go through and write about one of my favorite shows of all time.
A young woman with dark blonde hair sits at a messy desk. Oh the desk is an early 80s personal computer. She is wearing a t-shirt with a busy design on it and blue jeans. She’s also wearing large headphones over her ears.

The area inside the red line is the area that would be part of this analysis. I thought about including the new Spaceship Earth lounge and the “Moana inspired” walkthrough attraction about the water cycle, but that feels like cheating.

Every time I see this poster for Barry Lyndon on Letterboxd I think its an advertisement for an MLB All-Star Game at some point in the last 50 years. Something about it says 'baseball' to me even though it has nothing actually related to baseball on it.
A poster for the 1975 film Barry Lyndon from Letterboxd. In the center of the poster is the title, with 'Barry' on one line and Lyndon on the next. It's center aligned. Below the title is an 18th century dueling pistol crossed with a red rose. Above the title is an Ace of Spades card. All fo this is on a black background with a black border surrounding it.

Mickey…buddy…are you okay?
A screenshot from taken from a session of Dreamlight Valley a while ago. Mickey Mouse is standing by a well in the expansion island themed to Atlantis. He’s a mixture of his standard design and his Steamboat Willy design. It’s all fucked up looking. And though the game is notorious for bugs, this was intentional, as it’s part of the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit introduction. Talking to fucked up Mickey is my character, who is dressed in her film noir girl detective best and is also a monster with amazing rainbow hair.
