Darn it - beaten by the weather! I took a chance to paint with some dubious looking clouds aaand it just tipped it down. Water covered my surface so the oil paint just couldn´t adhere to the paper anymore. lol you win this time rain. #pleinairwoes #oilpainting #iceland #landscape #art

I find it so inspiring to be immersed in the landscape. When painting, I’m really in the moment - I notice the light, the colours, the shapes of the shadows, reflections in water. The landscape always an interesting story to tell! #iceland #landscape #art #adventure #nature

A little #pleinair escapade from last #winter. Despite the cold, seeing this icy landscape in the beautiful morning light was worth it! The frozen beach however almost cost me a paint brush… I dropped my brush & it went flying off on the icy sand down into the sea! #iceland #landscape #art

On this day 5 years ago I hiked to see (& paint) the #eruption in Fagradalsfjall. What an experience! You could feel the heat, hear the lava rocks as they shifted & tumbled. I couldn't believe how vivid red/orange the lava was! Nature is incredible! #iceland #landscape #art #throwback #hike #nature

Wow it was 5 years ago today that the #eruption in Fagradalsfjall Iceland began, and with it my Volcano a Day project! I painted 100 paintings of the eruption following its amazing growth & change. This was a lot of fun, perhaps a tad tiring lol but worth it! #iceland #landscape #art #throwback

NEW PAINTING! The transformations of the 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption were truly breathtaking. I was fascinated by this beautiful alchemy of nature where at one point the surface turned a silvery white colour. Isn't that incredible?! #iceland #oilpainting #landscape #volcano #art

Oil painting depicting the crater that had formed in the Fargradalsfjall eruption in Iceland. The surface of the crater turned a silvery white colour which is what is shown in this painting, from what I've read this was due to rapid cooling of lava which formed volcanic glass. Veins of red lava can also be made out winding down to the foreground.

It's important to me to experience the places I paint. On location the weather & light greatly influences the landscape at that moment. On my visit to Búrfellsgjá the sun was out and created a very different scene with half of the channel covered in shade. #oilpainting #iceland #art #scape

With everything being digital these days I find it especially refreshing to unplug and step outside. When I do – it’s such a wonderful feeling! On location I make small studies, gathering first hand how I felt, the colours I saw, how the light and weather affected the scene in that very moment.
