No, I’m not working on my syllabi today. I like to marinate my syllabi in procrastination and then quickly broil them at high anxiety. Then I frantically plate it on Canvas two days before with a garnish of parsley. Bon appétit!

Normally my Memorial Day weekend begins with giving a paper, listening to fabulous papers, and absolutely nerding out about early Christianity at the Annual Meeting of the North American Patristics Society in Chicago. I’m so sad to miss this time. Have a lovely time! I will see y’all soon!

For the many undergraduate and grad students who read deeply, ask good questions, wrestle through challenges, and write in their own voice, we give thanks. I know those who take the shortcuts or act badly get lots of attention. But I see y'all. Keep going, you are worth the investment in yourself.

Is martyrdom the highest call for Christians? The early Christian martyrdom accounts are not a call to action, but a witness to Christ's faithful identification with us, even in the worst of events. Watch the full episode with @amybrownhughes.bsky.social: youtu.be/JcJqCi3wmhc #churchhistory

I dissent. As a Christian and theologian who cares deeply for civil rights and justice and tearing down the idol of white supremacy that our nation clings to in its greed and lust for power and domination, I dissent.

Today is the last day to read my new book Gregory of Nyssa on the Resurrected Life for free: doi.org/10.1017/9781... This book is about Gregory's vision of the resurrected life, i.e., becoming truly our individual selves, growing together like Christ, and seeking justice - now, not just later.

I just had a book birthday! 🎉 Read Gregory of Nyssa and the Resurrected Life online for free for the next week or in print. Gregory connects the resurrection to justice and love of neighbor in ways that kind of blew my mind. Excited to share this book with y'all! www.cambridge.org/core/element...

Hey #medievalsky manuscript friends! Found in our archives. One is a Psalter from 1425 (maybe?). The other? No idea. Can anyone help identify what this Latin fragment from the late 1300s (supposedly) is? This is definitely not my wheelhouse. Any further info on either is welcome.

Humans made in the image of God are being starved and slaughtered in Gaza. Grief and rage at this atrocity does not diminish the horror of October 7th. One atrocity does not condone another. There is no justification for killing civilians, let alone children and the wounded. Absolutely none.

What theologians here find themselves doing historical #theology work in the 1500ish-now space? Obviously that's a large span of time and everyone has a focus (mine is early Christianity) but I'd love to meet some new friends who work in that space. Introduce yourselves! What do you work on?

Reading a recent book and came across a point I made in my more technical work on Gregory of Nyssa and Christology. Looked at the footnote and saw my article cited. You wonder sometimes if people ever read the really specific academic stuff. Turns out, sometimes they do! Warms the heart it does 😊

From the official White House account. There's no bottom to this administration's disdain for the law and for human rights. Dehumanizing an already vulnerable person and then mocking someone visiting that prisoner during Holy Week is...a choice. To be clear - it's a vile and anti-Christ choice.
