Ontario just tabled a bill to seize Toronto's waterfront, switch off environmental review, and bring jets to Billy Bishop airport. If you are a Canadian, take 15 minutes to email your MP to stop it at the federal level. Template + PM/Mayor CCs → docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I can tell when something is written by AI 100 miles away. The cadence is so obvious. - dashes! - loves to saying things like “what we should name directly” - “that’s not X, it’s Y telling you something” I use AI a lot in my job. Would love to hear weird things the robots have said to you.

This gal was left out on the curb so I rescued her. I find it so strange that people will live with a living thing and then just abandon it in subzero weather like it’s garbage. Big feelings today, friends!

Ursula K Le Guin. Her books sound great but every time I’ve picked one up, I’ve abandoned it. I can’t explain why except it left me cold? I would love to try again. Which book should I pick?

There’s a dead possum on the road in front of my house. It makes me so sad. Little creature managed to survive a brutal winter, ventures out on the first decent day and gets hit by a car.

I thought turning a year older in Costa Rica would be the transformative part. Turns out it was norovirus. Nothing humbles you like locking eyes with resplendent birds while actively fighting to hold down the ounce of water you managed to drink. Costa Rica: you were beautiful. I was not.

We are 22 days into the year and I have already lived several small winters, lost some hope, found it again by spending time with this little weirdo and his siblings, and lost it immediately to the Toronto weather. Also. He’s the cutest, right?

In non weather news (but tangentially related via subject matter), Saul Leitner’s photography was/is magic.

Toronto weather is keeping us all emotionally agile. -21c blizzard one day, +1c and melting the next. Cool. Cool. 😑 This account is basically Statler and Waldorf for winter weather. Fewer laughs though.

Most people are back to work tomorrow, but Toronto has put January behind another yellow blizzard warning like “proceed with caution, expectations will not be met.” The winter is really wintering here this year. The small brown dogs are not impressed.

Normalize wearing pyjamas. Nice ones. To work, to play, to make dinner, to hang out with friends. They are just clothes that match and feel good.

I accidentally rescued a kitten. He is gentle, curious, and optimistic about friendship. My dogs are still not on board weeks later. I keep waiting for the moment where everyone settles in and the dogs stop the barking and chasing. If you’ve been here: did anything work? How did it take?

Just watched the final episode of Stranger Things and while I thought this series lost the plot multiple times, I found it touching. Childhood, change, fear, love … The end reminded me a bit of how Six Feet Under ended, which destroyed me. Well played.

The 'kin' of ‘napkin’ means "little." ‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.” So a napkin is a little tablecloth. 10/10, no notes.

Using Gumloop is like having a conversation with my pets. It has a brain. I have a brain. Neither knows the other’s language. Gumloop: “I’m evaluating 14 possible interpretations of your node request.” Me, to my dog: “I’m asking a yes or no question.” We’re all trying hard. No one is fluent.
