Mostly I mourn the use of colour in the costumes. Apart from Mrs Jennings Olive coloured gowns everything is Beige, grey and occasionally as a treat- navy!

Also a lost chance to make use of the other Anglo-Saxon and early norman items in the museum's collection - which are so chronically overlooked in their floor space (and often far less controversial than items which are front and centre)

Been to see the #bayeuxtapestry and both thrilled and vaguely disappointed at the presentation. I expected a lot much more of an exhibition. There are so many interesting objects that provide context and nuance to 1066 - and help engage visitors

Peatlands are powerful. Here are just a few reasons why… 1. Peatland vegetation slows the flow of rainfall which helps reduce the risk of flooding in nearby towns and villages. Peatlands only cover around 3% of the world's surface but contains more carbon than all the world's rainforests.
A peatland with areas of water surrounding tufts of grass in a valley. We see hills with clouds behind. Clouds are grey and white. No people are in view.

Went to Vyne House yesterday and was not expecting early 16th century flemish stained glass depictions of Henry VIII, Catherine of Aragon and Margaret Tudor with namesake saints. Possibly at Holy Ghost Chapel and moved to preserve during reformation #stainedglass #tudors #nationaltrust

I've been to Winchester cathedral before but coming back now I've started my studies and seeing the monuments for William Waynflete and Cardinal Beaufort, who are such key players in my period, makes it even more impactful.

A lot of the old Tory councillors have gone to reform. The best we can hope for is no majority for any party. It's so frustrating.

Another useful guide from your friends at Buckinghamshire Archives
A meme of 'Is this a document?' showing a grid with various classifications of things that might be documents based on their content and structure, graded between purist and radical. Each box has a matching image of the contents, including the USS Enterprise, a WAV waveform, the Boarstall Cartulary, and Scrabble.

It heightens both the violation of Victor bursting into her bedroom and the intimacy of her embrace with the Creature. The one person who does not see Elizabeth like this is William- her fiance in this adaptation- and an arranged match that is not completed

This was one of two paintings of Sissi with her hair loose in her toilette (the other from 1864 also by Winterhalter) but these were intimate paintings commissioned by the emperor and kept in his private study.

I've already seen people talking about Elizabeth in #Frankenstein2025 in connection w Sissy and the famous Franz Xaver Winterhalter painting- but not how much hair was a massive Victorian obsession that is emblematic of both purity and sexuality

The funny thing about the Superman freakout is that Kal-El isn't "just" an undocumented immigrant. He is a refugee who fled a planet that was literally dying. His creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, were first generation Jews whose parents had fled persecution in Eastern Europe.

Andrea Dworkin pointed out the irony of being told men are women's natural protectors, when they are the biggest danger. Whether women are put on a pedestal or a pyre, it's the same old patriarchy. Men & women are not different species, men are not naturally superior to women.
