Conflating competence, a neutral measure, with 'good' is a deflection only the morally illiterate attempt. Efficiency doesn't care what it serves, it built vaccines & ran death camps with the same indifference. Yes, I imagine if there was hell, it would be efficiently run & full of people like him.

Netanyahu opened his address to a nearly empty UN hall by deliberately framing the walkout protest against an ongoing genocide as moral cowardice. The rest of his speech was thick with lies & performative indignation. His bright red tie looked freshly soaked in the blood of Palestinian children.

Oh, how the mighty fall when they have a deranged leader. The United States is still the most powerful country in the world. What Trump has squandered is its power to command respect.

He answered mostly in monosyllables. His room was a minefield of empty chocolate and protein bar wrappers, soda cans and strategically scattered clean and dirty clothes hiding hazards ranging from dumbbells, footballs, protractors and pens, even darts.

No one protesting in Britain needs a balaclava to protect them from their own government. The mask isn't for safety. It is for consequence-free intimidation. Cowards hide, patriots don’t.

Isn’t that exactly what BfV did? They identified the threat, ran a formal, years long investigation, produced an evidentiary report and then upgraded AfD to a confirmed right wing extremist. Not panic, no rolling over. Now what is the next step?

The EU faces three defining crises at once. Two former allies gone rogue, the US and Russia. And from within, it must now defend what its own Charter promises, while some of its own members betray it. An alliance can survive external enemies. It cannot survive hollowing itself out from within.

It was hatred and antisemitism that muted and delayed the US, Britain and much of Europe’s response as Nazi Germany’s atrocities escalated to genocide. Today it is anti-Muslim hatred and Islamophobia muting and delaying the same countries’ response to Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians. /1

Colonialism used to arrive in gunboats, a flag, and in the Queen’s name. Now it arrives with an “agreement”, a 100 year claim on 65 billion barrels of another country’s oil signed months after Maduro was captured by US. Echoes of the East India Company are hard to miss. Long live King Donald!

Trumpian foreign policy has distinct Atlas Shrugged vibes. Rand missed the myth, Atlas wasn’t holding up the sky because he was great. It was his punishment. Trump misses the modern one, US hegemony rests on a world that helps hold it up. Walk away, and it is not the sky that falls.

Is “shifting the tides of history” a claim about irreversibility or durability? Either way, surely it is too early to tell, 20 months in, unelected, still fighting ISIS remnants, dependent on Turkish backing and Israel’s forbearance.

The UK is blistering today, with helicopters circling above, looking for signs of fire. But at the back of my garden, beneath the trees, some 100 years old, there is a little paradise of cool shade and lovely breeze. Nature’s own air conditioning.🌳 And, at last, a purpose for those yoga mats. 😂

Wild timing to compare universities today, my son ended up choosing Leeds over Exeter’s Cornwall campus after Clearing. This thread shows why that’s looking like the right call. Management denying closures while quietly cutting 7 of 20 staff is not a good sign. It started with Brexit… /1

Farage has cost Britain far more than a wasted by-election. Years of anti-EU crusading and the Brexit it delivered hollowed out the economy, our international standing, and public trust, driven purely by self-interest dressed up as principle.

What if Andy Burnham could raise £15bn – without a tax rise? There's one catch. He'd need to solve the UK’s biggest and least-discussed tax problem. Almost half of all small business corporation tax isn't being paid - and nobody knows why. Thread:

Governments aren’t 1950s housewives balancing a budget. When you cut roads & welfare to ‘find’ defence money, you are shuffling debt around and that is making your country less productive, less attractive to investors & less healthy. That is not being fiscally responsible. That is managed decline.

A decade after Brexit, on our seventh Prime Minister trying to make Brexit work, still no cake and eat it, no cards in our hands, no unicorns, and no £350 million a week for the NHS. The EU, rather inconsiderately, didn’t collapse either. But hey, at least we made Farage happy… oh wait.
