For me it's that they both offer(ed) a nsfw option and a print-on-demand storefront so that I dont have to ship them myself when someone buys.

🚫 crazy cat lady ✅ crazy catboy lady

unlike the cat distribution system, which affects everyone, the catboy distribution system is mysterious and elusive. this old catboy lady is surrounded by catboys, living her best life. the catboys are probably also living their best life with their sugar granny.

If she doesn't fill you with existential dread over the fragility of life in a world full of despair she's not a real goth 😤

It also seems hard to find art conventions that allow 18+ stuff, so was pretty excited hearing that this one accepted it and was relatively local to where I live (the thought of hauling convention stuff on a plane and having to make up for the ticket costs horrifies me).

ohh I see. I wasn't made aware of it until very recently 😅 I'm so out of touch with the convention scene

Omg... Can I join you? I have never applied for either a con or a seller's permit and have no idea what I'm doing 😅

I think there's a 3D plugin that interfaces with Blender. But usually I use webapps or other programs for 3d character references, then screenshot them (but prefer posing myself in the mirror personally). Krita does have built in perspective guides if that's all you need.

I like Bruce Timm's designs since they're simple, playful and horny. The Gotham Girls flash animations from 2000 use his designs and has a trans character in it, although it isnt catwoman.

we meet our customers in a dark alley with the comics hanging off the inner pockets of a trenchcoat.

ccbill has huge fees to allow credit card use from the customer, so it isn't realistic for small indie creators. but, they are the ones I've seen used most often for adult stuff. at this point we may as well ask ppl to snail-mail cash to a PO box.

🦪🏄🏽‍♀️🧜🏻‍♂️

the merboy is looking at a freshly opened bivalve with a pearl inside it and is reminded of the surfer. the surfer is pulling a geoduck out of the sand and is reminded of the merboy. there is NO INNUENDO going on here; why would you even think such a thing? clearly the merboy is thinking that this dainty pearl embedded in the soft folds of the bivalve is a wonderful gift to the surfer. the surfer, who is so impressed by the girth and length of the geoduck meat, is probably thinking the merboy would like to eat it since he has an entirely pescetarian diet. obviously.

there isn't any rule in the surfing competition that says you can't be secretly propelled forward by a mermaid

Nope! Most dont even keep track of inventory for self-published books.

020

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 25/07/2025

once I figured out my printer, I just called the bookstores and asked if they buy/sell self-published books and zines, and if adult stuff was okay. And then they'd say yes and I'd bring them in and they'd pay me. It is exactly as simple as it sounds.

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 25/07/2025

I think if you have different prices for a PDF vs a print that would be a different case. Or you could label your inflated hardcopy with a perpetual 50% off sale? lol

110

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 24/07/2025

I was also hesitant at first but pretty much every bookstore/comic store said yes to my very explicit adult zines. Most were even excited about it since i guess they sell well. Although I'm on easy mode in california lol

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 02/07/2025

someone mentioned to me that little printed books and other small things may become more popular during economic hardships. Like the lipstick effect but for art. Also the internet getting crappy from AI + no covid lockdowns = more people will go to physical stores/cons but that's just speculation

130

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 02/07/2025

yeah in terms of profits i get the most % from selling them online. The bookstore consignment fees are really high. They usually take half the cover price. I assume conventions could be in-between if multiple artists pool their merch into one person's table or something (if that's allowed).

Alex @amorphophalex.bsky.social · 02/07/2025

i recently started printing my stuff and dropping them off at local bookstores. dunno how the profits compare to conventions since I've never been, but apparently lots of people are buying my little porn zines. i sold over 60 copies in 3 weeks. basically ran out of copies. so there is a demand

that is also my fear/expectation. They'll make it so you can't reference their characters specifically, but screw everything/everyone else.

This reminds me of these Lascaux cave paintings where it took archeologists a really long time to figure out why the animals had multiple superimposed limbs, heads, tails. Any comic book artist or animator would instantly recognize it though lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPQR...

i have an inkling there's a very heavy overlap between "cal arts style" complainers and people who generate AI pics of anime girls that all have the exact same glossy pouty-face look

boy: Wow, I can actually feel my dick moving back and forth
girl: You don't have to say that out loud!
