I have no idea if this Digger movie is going to be any good, but can at least appreciate a movie that's advertising itself with lobby cards in 2026. Good way to get me personally to be a little nicer to you movie
A lobby card for the movie Digger. It features a black and white photo of a bunch of th cast looking in horror/confusion at something off screen

I've been reading the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh at @jetzeroinfinity.bsky.social's insistence and I am having a grand time. I think my favorite part so far is being well read enough to really enjoy how well Takahashi could lay out a page, dude's composition skills were top tier
The title page it Yu-Gi-Oh chapter 15. Illustrations of Shadi and (Evil) Yugi are bisected by the Millennium Puzzle Yugi and Kaiba have their first match. Yugi's dragon makes short work of Kaiba's demonEvil Yugi menacing a school bully while sitting on some PE equipment

Few things more heartbreaking than learning that we were *this close* to having a home grown stateside, non-sports mascot and it just didn't happen
A photo from Instagram advertising plushies of the Cardvaark, a proposed mascot to help sell the MeteoCard or NYC subway riders back when it was first introduced. He's an orange ardvaark wearing a hat and a blue and yellow shirt and holding a MeteoCard and he's adorable

From yesterdays NYT profile on Joe Hisaishi and still my favorite fun fact about him
And he had a love of jazz so pronounced that he abandoned his birth name, Mamoru Fujisawa, to go by Joe Hisaishi professionally, based on the Japanese kanji and phonetic equivalents of “Quincy Jones.”

#17. "The Pennine Tower Restaurant" by Simon Kurt Unsworth Supremely unnerving short story about a haunted(?) restaurant at a rest stop on the M6 motorway. Strikes a really nice balance between never giving too much away while having enough blood and tension to give it some teeth.
The cover to the Simon Kurt Unsworth short story collection Lost Places. I read this story in a different anthology, the Tachyon published, Ellen Datlow edited collection Hauntings, but this one has the actual restaurant on the cover so I picked it instead.

#16. Kirby's Dream Land I did not have this one as a kid, but I definitely would have played the hell out of it on long car trips if I did. Good fun, solid platformer. Only real "flaw" is that since it's the first one, there's a bunch of series staples that aren't there yet, but still worth a spin

Sidebar since I'm not likely to talk about Li'l Abner anytime soon again: I'm amused that Capp was so good at coming up with female characters who would be mind meltingly popular among certain groups of people on the internet and that Capp probably would have hated that.
Moonbeam McSwine, a hot buxom lady lying in a pig sty with a corncob pipe in her had. The bit is that she is extremely lazy and doesn't really want to do anything. Would do gangbusters with people who love themselves a girlfailure.Wolf Girl, a giant woman with huge eyebrows (among other things) who spends a bunch of this storyline having her wolves eat annoying men. Would be very popular with anyone who loves a woman who will ruin thier life.A character who I'm not sure is actually given a real name? But the bit is she looks exactly like Abner except she's a hot Al Capp lady. I feel like the audience for a handsome woman with a club does not require much explanation on this website

#15. The Short Life and Happy Times of the Shmoo (1948, 1959/2002) by Al Capp An collection of two (the two? I can never figure out how often the Shmoo showed up in Li'l Abner) Shmoo centric storylines. The Shmoo is one of the better demented ideas comics has produced & this is a fun read

#13. Play Don't Worry (1975) by Mick Ronson More of Ronno doing the solo glam guitar hero thing. Another solid listen, though I think you can kind of tell Ronson was losing interest in doing stuff like this as his main career, especially given the number of covers invovled.

#12. The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix Hendrix writes in his introduction that on of the thoughts that led to this book was him idly thinking "What if my mom had to fight Dracula" and instinctively knowing that Dracula wouldn't stand a fucking chance.

#11. Slaughter on 10th Avenue (1974) by Mick Ronson The start of Ronson's brief stab at a solo career. A good solid, glammy listen, if maybe a little indicative of Ronson being better working with other musicians instead of being the star himself

#10. Jellyfish by Boum Canadian comic about person who starts seeing a jellyfish floating through the air that only they can see. I won't go into too much more detail so as not to spoil what's happening, but it's a good, grounded graphic novel about rolling with the punches. Recommended

#9. Rock 'n' Roll Star! (1971-1972; 2024) by David Bowie A big box set of various b-sides, outtakes, alternates, demos, and live cuts from the Ziggy Stardust days. Probably overkill if you're not a Bowie fan, but it's got a lot of good stuff in it if you are.

None of these shojo manga are much like Mars, which has the form of a glittering girls’ romance but the heart of Charles Baudelaire and a surprising amount of motorcycle action.

It seems especially tragic given that Akira Inui gave us a little taste of the slashy rivalry the protagonist and the big bad look like they were going to have if it ran longer. Shame
Two and a half panels of a man suplexing an alien into the Earth from orbit. The man is saying "[Let's] headbutt the planet together!" Excellent take! I think it also pairs nicely with some of my own thoughts on the series:
My favorite part about the last chapter was how the "big moment" that caps everything off is just Denji stopping Asa from tripping, and then they have an awkward but sincere little emotional moment between them, uncomplicated by all the fantastical bullshit their world is full of. A lot of CSM is about both of them being denied that over and over again and it's sweet that here at the end, they're able to give each other that, even if they don't have the context we do.

Like, as someone who's been reading since day one, seeing Denji get that honest connection with another person, the thing it felt like he always wanted but couldn't articulate, even to himself? That's just heartwarming. And Asa gets her trip streak stopped! Everyone wins!!
