I sometimes annoy the more pedantic of my colleagues when I move forward too quickly in projects. They care about validating every little detail, do every possible control. But I care more about systemic patterns - even if some of the details are inaccurate, the patterns are real.

The ai explosion in scientific research is overwhelming. By the time I learn and get to use a tool effectively, numerous others come out and it becomes obsolete. It makes me want to do more fundamental science and skip the hype.

A tremendous paper showing the prevalence and catalytic potential of many unexplored regions of chemical space. I am highly doubtful it tells us anything about the origin of life, but it keeps the flame of the field burning. Congrats!

In February it's going to be ten years since I made the decision to pursue a career in science. It's been a great journey - and I hope as I move forward I will keep improving and honing my skills, and make more impactful discoveries.

It was absolutely incredible to have the honor of giving the “Mendel Lecture” at the Augustinian Abbey in Brno, where Mendel lived and worked. While Mendel is the greatest hero of genetics, the lessons from his story were never learned 👇

4+ years into this project and I'm still spending my weekends wrestling with data and interpretation. It's not coming easy but I promise it's coming

What I expect from a peer review process is good constructive cooments that aim to improve my science. Some reviewers clearly use this opportunity for personal attacks and to vent frustrations without properly addressing the work. I don't mind rejection, but give me a good fair reason for it.

Why are so many proteins hyper-phosphorylated during mitosis? Well, extensive phosphorylation renders individual proteins more soluble & disrupts protein-protein interactions. So global hyper-phosphorylation may 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐞 the cytoplasm - to mechanically aide the process of cell division.
