Would the academic and personal life of Jason Arday be scrutinised and closely examined under a microscope if he were white? I doubt it. Such a shame that Jason thought peace could only be achieved by leaving this world. Racism is alive and kicking. We all have a role to play in silencing it.

There are still some people who feel threatened when refugees are empowered. The stereotype that refugees are in constant need of help because they are vulnerable needs to change. Rule of life: nothing stays the same, everything changes.

‘Why do you cry when you hear this song?’ I used to ask my mom back in the day. ‘You will understand when you grow up,’ she replied. I think she used to cry to reflect the pain of being Kurdish, landless, suffering from oppression, with no hope in sight. youtu.be/cDg0aSMrjVw?...
