Is this kind of art still popular? I do remember when "shock art" was feted and popular but I'm not sure if it still is. It sold itself as an unflinching critical examination of ugliness - but scratch the surface and you simply found brute cruelty.

I feel like it was definitely a performance consideration with Wizardry on the Apple II. You can see the redraw as you play and how much time would be added if the window was bigger. Perhaps it became a matter of style among its imitators.

I read your very personal and thoughtful piece. Thanks for writing it. It helped me appreciate a game I reacted very negatively to. You spent a lot of time in the piece anticipating critiques, only some of them mine - I never found the game that 'weird'. So I get the tone of this thread now.

People are misreading what stancil is even saying for the sake of shallow dunks. If you read the entire declaration of independence as intellectually and ideologically bankrupt becuase of it's historical context and references to slavery then you'll spend your entire life discovering nihilism.
