Today’s bogwitch experience. And the video of my on the living bridge over the Shannon River, didn’t want to upload. Now is the time of monsters.

Riot of autumn color by the roadside. A thicket of leaves in reds, oranges, yellows, and greens.

I never forget that the muppets are absolute monsters. Paper flyer reads: “the old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters”. with a picture of Elmo underneath.

Suuuuper uncomfortable to focus so hard on songwriting, but collaborative groups with the songwriting MA cohort is actually very exciting. “Hey hey Good lookin, whatcha got cookin, howw’s about cookin somethin up with me….” It took us 40 minutes today, and I felt good about my contributions.

Pretty sure I was able to pick up in the clearance section in a skandie shop for housewares and buy myelf children’s sized plushie unicorn slippers with shiny Mylar wings and horns. €1 Score! They’ll last longer than farmers market flowers which were out anyway. My goal for the day was whimsy.

Exercise from today, write a haiku about an everyday object in your life. And then collaborate to turn them into music. Most students from classical strings chose an object in front of their faces. I chose a kettle. It rained all the way home. But even on a slow day, 12.6 km. I have wheel lights now

Deeply tired. Today was orientation, which started off with leaving home early, pedaling 5km, into confusion and tears, walking 6.72 km for campus tours, meeting cohort, eating bad cafeteria food with cohort. and then pedaling back another 5k. My body is tired. Is every day like this?!?! 1 week in.

Singing is somatic therapy for me. Self soothing, self loving, community soothing, community loving. When I’m too sad or stressed, I don’t sing. Today is one of the first days in nearly a month where I’ve felt grounded enough to sing for my own enjoyment again. Not for projects but around the house.

Welcome home to Limerick, S looked all gleeful and keeps chuckling over: “I’m married to a bog witch!” Bike repair is 6.8km away.. harder to get to when your new used bike won’t shift or brake. My lane out to Shannakyle is absolutely haunted. But coos on the bog and birds greet me in the mornings.

Mmmm, singing in Irish, and Italian for this baby. I am so pleased to be able to work with singers who speak those languages first. Mmmm acccess to cultural nuance otherwise lost when learning to sing additional languages than your own. It’s good to be brave though, poetry is concentrated meaning.

I think the crux of the tension about social media is that it became a major way for individuals to easily reach one another often replacing direct connection tools which was later filtered by bots and algorithms… and some folks monetized their popularity, so the bot makers wanted some of the pie.

A new category of Grammy award has now been announced. Which is right in my wheelhouse. It’s been re-introduced by Folk Alliance International. It’s: Best Traditional Folk Album of the Year category. My oldest friend, musical compatriot, and person who saw me first as human received a terminal cancer diagnosis. He’s 80 and fine with an end to the chronic pain, but I’m not. Hospice is a godsend for his family though. He reminds me that seeing and being seen clearly, aren’t for everyone. Bereft.

Someone horribly abusive to me and mine, and a buuunch of other community died last week, in a house fire with his 60 pet & rescue snakes. Mostly I feel relief. The revisionist story in the local rag is gross, but I’m sad for his wife who now has to defend it all. I have a lot of anger to let go of.

I just read that in a war, the psychological impact of yelling helps people feel continue fighting. Every week, even if you don’t think you have anything else you can do, do that, but also, call the political donors corporate offices and rail at the folks working for the companies paying Satan.
