Curiosity got the better of me and I played through the entirety of Mighty No. 9...... I haven't gotten this mad and angry at a game ever since Castlevania Circle of the Moon, and this game was even worse. Full thoughts:

Curiosity got the better of me and I played through the entirety of Mighty No. 9, the failed Mega Man clone by Keiji Inafune himself..... ramble/rant time. Look, I know this game gets dunked on a lot because of its development history and the game itself, but I wanted to play it because it was dirt cheap on Steam (it was like a dollar or two when I got it) and I heard some people say that the game is just okay.

Well, I played the game myself.... and I've never felt this angry and enraged ever since Castlevania Circle of the Moon, maybe even way worse. Oh my god, this game sucks. This is easily the worst Mega Man-like I've ever played, I did the whole damn thing and I wasn't happy in the slightest with it and don't see how some people give it a pass.

Usually these types of games are supposed to be hard but you have to overcome them with patience and observation, the best kind of hard is when you learn the game and how it works to overcome what it throws and it's so satisfying to do. Mighty No. 9 is the polar OPPOSITE of that. It felt like the game was throwing something at me constantly at both the stages and bosses that would instantly kill me and will make sure that I fall into them. I kid you not when I say that I game overed at every single stage in the game more than once because of the amount of times it wants to kill me and the game throwing a mechanic or surprise that I didn't enjoy at all. Batt's the only exception because it barely pulls off any of the insta-kill stuff and is actually a well-designed stage, everything else did not feel fun or satisfying to play in the slightest and would annoy me constantly.

The game's overall presentation is terrible too. This game supposedly got around two million dollars in Kickstarter funding and the game looks like an early PS2 game lazily ported to modern hardware. The voice acting is annoying and barely enjoyable, and the models' mouths don't move during the cutscenes which bugs me. I know it's technically an indi…

So yeah, I genuinely hated Mighty No. 9 and think the game sucks so bad and its downfall was deserved. And that's a shame because there were things about it I did like, the Mighty Numbers helping you at certain stages when you rescue them is a mechanic I wish was used more in these kinds of games, the music is a good listen, Call's stage was pretty nice for what it's worth, and I think the game's world had some potential in it (even if it's just copying Mega Man's homework). There's some nice parts in Mighty No. 9, it's just everything else surrounding it is so bad that I don't want to play it again. I purely played it for closure and to form my own opinion about it, and that's all I care about right now. There are way better Mega Man clones to try such as Gravity Circuit, 20XX and 30XX, and Azure Gunvolt Strike, and I cannot recommend Mighty No. 9 to anyone.

Also, looking back, it's crazy to think that this game single-handedly destroyed Inafune's reputation because everything that could've gone wrong with went wrong, and it was thanks to him, and he was only getting worse from there...

Been playing around with Callipeg on Android and trying to make an animation in it, which I'll share when done. I'm really enjoying it so far & having a lot of fun animating in it! It's fast and smooth and has the basic stuff I need! Wish it had stuff like symmetry and effects, but it's still great

I watch one video analyzing Final Fantasy 8's Junction System and I'm bombarded with video tutorials on how to exploit it and be overpowered early. I find the system interesting in concept but flawed in execution & I don't have a lot of interest in 8, but it's pretty interesting to see nonetheless.

Castlevania Belmont's Curse demo just came out a few hours ago and I beat it. I got my ass handed a few times because it was different from the other games in controls, game feel, and mechanics. But I managed to overcome those hurdles and had a blast with the demo! Can't wait for the full release :)
