Mom’s Dog No. 3, oil on paper. My mom took a great photo of one of her dogs with a white toy dinosaur in her mouth, which looked like a great candidate for a painting. Still more difficult to paint pets compare to people, but a solid result! #dogart #petportrait #dogportrait #painting #petpainting

I just released an Art Catalog app on iOS! This originally started as a personal project to organize my own artwork and transaction details, but I thought it might be cool to build something that others could use too. Link: apps.apple.com/us/app/art-c... #artapp #appstore #portfolio #art #catalog

Neighbors’ cat, oil on paper. A portrait of our neighbors family cat, who passed away recently. It’s still nice to look back sometimes at older paintings I did of our first family cat. #cats #catart #catpainting #oilpainting #catportraits

Cafe Scene, oil on paper. Sometimes a painting will confound me after I’m finished. This one of a woman at a cafe with a crowd behind her is a great example. I do like the piece overall though. #art #painting #allaprima #cafescene #portrait

Vacation art no. 4, pastels on paper. With this last water pastel portrait, I finally started to get how the medium works (relatively speaking). I still struggled with the water painting phase washing detail out - control is definitely a hurdle. #art #pastel #portrait #artist

Vacation art no. 3, pastels on paper. I’m sharing these in the order they were drawn/painted (whatever the appropriate verb is for water soluble pastels). This really shows the challenges I had learning how they work. #art #pastelart #artist #portrait

Vacation art no. 2, pastels on paper. Sketching during this trip was my first experience using water soluble pastels. Actually, it felt more like a hybrid of drawing and painting, split into a couple phases. Very interesting…and challenging! #art #pastel #sketching #sketchbook

Vacation art no. 1, pastels on paper. When my family and I travel, the kids and I usually do some sketching when we’re just hanging out. This time I wanted to try something new, so I did some drawing/painting with water soluble pastels. #pastelart #pastels #sketchbook #pastelcolors

Our kitten, oil on paper. I took a little break from the classic game inspired paintings to do an oil paint sketch of our “kitten” since I’d only ever done one of him in a sketchbook. I used quotes because this fluff ball is huge! Bigger than our three year old cat. #cat #catagram #painting #catart

The majority of my paintings are of just one subject, but I had an urge to try a crowd of people. Since the largest I usually work is 12” x 12”, it’s tough to fit detail with a large group. Composition and efficiency are pretty important with these #painting #art #portrait
