I found this rather niche series about a clan living in Appalachia whose home is being attacked by the coal industry. While it isn't perfect, there's a great deal of charm. Invented languages, lush landscapes, and solid character arcs. It's currently available on Amazon. #tv #crime #drama

When it comes to King, I like IT and The Body and that's about it. Since you liked Midsommar, I'd suggest a more atmospheric folk horror: The Hill in the Dark Grove by Liam Higginson. You might also like Headlights by CJ Leede. It's got mystery, suspense, the supernatural, and some body horror.

Looking for an indie film about demonic possessions? The Cleansing Hour is a solid addition to the genre and criticizes modern internet culture and branding (despite being released in 2016). The practical effects are also pretty awesome. It's available on Shudder. #horror #filmsky

To tailor my recommendation to you specifically (I read a LOT of horror), what sort of spooky stories do you like? Feel free to list tropes, movies, books, etc.

Let books be. Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar? Find ways to get involved and spread the word: bit.ly/4yvixbB.
LET BOOKS BE. Various line drawings related to libraries and books, including a hand holding a sign made of an open book that reads "Freed for ALL to Read," a tote bag that reads "Totes Resist" carrying a book, a full book cart with the head and tale of a horse with text that reads "A Wild Ride," and a closeup of two feet standing on a stack of books that say "A Soap Box" on their spines. Text at bottom reads "Protect the freedom to read. Banned Books Week, October 4-10, 2026." American Library Association. ala.org/bbooks

Resident Evil was a hilarious and gory pleasure! You don't need any prior knowledge of the IP to enjoy this fun, messy, expletive-heavy watch (I've never played the games but saw the atrocious movies from the 2000s). Zach Cregger never disappoints. #horror #filmsky #residentevil

This month, I focused solely on Vampires Everywhere! A lengthy scaffolding outline was written for each book in the trilogy. I added 12,000 words to the once-empty page. I hope to complete the first draft of book one by the end of October. #writing #drafting #outlining

Grief is a complicated beast. It's not as simple as recovering from a loss or healing after heartbreak. It can take years to finally reach a point where the mere thought of someone no longer has the power to cripple you on your worst days. Feel the pain, but don't wallow in it. #philosophy #quote

Liam Higginson's debut is a harsh novel about Welsh folklore, nostalgia, enduring love, obsession, and the marks we leave on this earth. The dark plot is complemented by a gentle narration. While this is certainly horror, it leans literary. ★★★★★  #horror #welsh #folklore #booksky

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is an awakening of self. It's a queer and sexual coming-of-age (even if the MC is 29). But it's also about nostalgia and how stories become facets of our identities. It's a film that shouldn't be missed. #horror #film #queerhorror

Thank you, Henrik. I like cosmic horror but generally can't fully connect with military sci-fi. How much does the militaristic aspect factor into the plot/character development?

@barbaratruelove.bsky.social's novella is humorous, visceral, and timely. I devoured it.  If a quick read about a "trad wife" that just so happens to be undead sounds appealing, you won't be disappointed. Releases February 2nd. #horror #booksky

Each of these shows left its mark. I found Skins when I was 17 (at the tail end of series four) and have rewatched it at least five times. The End of the F***ing World is a gem. In My Skin is powerful and tense. If you liked Euphoria, give these much better shows a watch. #TV #recs #teendramas
