I think the thing that always fucks me up is Kaeya has canonically never held Diluc to account for the injury to his eye. Of all the things he's gotten pissy about with him (selling the old house, being more cold, etc.) he's never made Diluc feel guilty for that. It's a line he refuses to cross.

imagine if varka and kaeya first met not long after kaeya arrived in mondstadt... kaeya was still very small, very nervous - and mondstadt's language was still new to him. the combination was lethal, particularly paired with how impressive the grandmaster was. kaeya had never seen someone so cool.
