What's the best way to add signage to metal shelves like these? I'm thinking about those labels that go on the edge of the shelf. #TLSky #Skybrarian #Skybrarians
Metal shelf from a school library non-fiction section with a wooden inset on the edge. A large blue book called Giant Squid is visible at the end.

This is such a lovely thread to read. I'm having trouble choosing one book. For me I think it was the joy of either sharing a book with someone (often my dad) or of getting completely absorbed by a story for a while.

This Sundogs nominee made me cry. Lots on grief and friendship. Saving Wolfgang by Gregor Craigie #MYRCA #Kidlit #TLSky
Front cover of the book Saving Wolfgang by Gregor Craigie. A boy stands on an outdoor hockey rink facing the net. He wears skates, a green jersey with the number 30 on the back, and goalie gear. He holds a hockey stick and his helmet, and has a sad expression on his face.

This MYRCA nominee was delightfully creepy and twisty. Very fun to read. The Ghosts of Bitterfly Bay by Mary Averling. #MYRCA #TLSky #Kidlit
Front cover of the book The Ghosts of Bitterfly Bay by Mary Averling. A glowing, slightly translucent girl walks along a dock toward a run-down cabin, looking nervously over her shoulder. She holds a small round object decorated like an owl. Behind her, two large dripping hands with long fingers and long curved fingernails reach out of the water and curl toward the dock. A heron stands on the cabin roof and glowing moths flutter around in a purple-tinged night sky.

For students who have trouble getting started on a task or struggle with one of the earlier steps, this strategy gives them practice with the skills in the later steps. Interview with Melanie Meehan www.cultofpedagogy.com/backward-cha...

This MYRCA Sundogs nominee has such a creative concept! Caleb travels back in time with his family to save artifacts that would otherwise be destroyed, until they run afoul of the Time Council. Time Surfers by Kevin Sylvester. #MYRCA #TLSky #KidLit
Front cover of Time Surfers by Kevin Sylvester. A blond boy with a determined expression wears a brown coat and aviator-type cap (without earflaps) with goggles on his head. He holds a tube with a scroll inside and a gold, blue, and red pedant. Behind him to the left is a girl with olive skin and dark curly hair, also looking determined. To the right is a light-skinned man with a beard and mustache. He is wearing glasses with several magnifying layers over one eye and he is inspecting a glowing object in his hand. Above them is the hull of a metal ship with two portals, fading into blue fog.

My favorite MYRCA Sundogs nominee so far! I'm going to suggest this to grade 4 teachers as a read-aloud. Funny, relatable, and full of Dene cultural teachings. It would go beautifully with the Pimachiowin Aki Minecraft activity by @logicsacademy.bsky.social. #MYRCA #TLSky #kidlit
Front cover of the book Touching Grass by Kristy Jackson and Rhael McGregor. A boy in a forest looks over his shoulder with an anxious expression. He holds a Nintendo Switch with a video game showing a person in front of a campfire. He wears a backpack with snack poking out of an open pocket.

Next MYRCA nominee: Way Off Track, a graphic novel by Carl Brundtland with art by Claudia Dávila. This was a fun, quick read with really strong characters and voice. Nansi's Jamaican Granny was my favourite. #TLSky #kidlit #MYRCA
Front cover of the book Way Off Track by Carl Brundtland and Claudia Dávila. The illustration is a Black girl running on a track and reaching for the glowing track shoe of the runner in front of her, while two friends cheer in the background.

My second MYRCA Sundogs read of the summer: Invisible: The Sort of True Story of Me & My Hidden Disease, by David Soren. J.J.'s disease shows up tangibly in the form of a creature only he can see. Great for those with similar experiences and empathy-building for those without. #MYRCA #TLSky
Front cover of a book titled "Invisible: The Sort of True Story of Me & My Hidden Disease" by David Soren. Below the title is an illustration of a boy on the exam table in a doctor's office, looking with alarm at a large purple creature with a green beard eating corn chips.

Finally started working my way through next year's MYRCA Sundogs nominees. I really enjoyed this one! Themes of healthy friendships and using your gifts in positive ways. And it's set in Winnipeg! #TLSky #MYRCA
Photo of the book "How to Save a Library" by Colleen Nelson. It has the library in the background, with two middle grade students standing in front. One has a soccer ball. A duck and ducklings are crossing the path in front of them.

I'm taking a course on cataloguing right now that's a bit of a slog, but it has its delightful moments. I like Ranganathan's 5 Laws of Library Science: Books are for use. Every reader [their] book. Every book its reader. Save the time of the reader. Library is a growing organism.

I really appreciate this perspective. Looking forward to rolling out a digital makerspace at my school next year which hopefully will increase that thinking time for students.

I work at a school that prioritizes clubs, which has been lovely to see. I'm enjoying taking time this summer to think through club ideas. Many of our clubs are only 15 minutes at recess, which is a tricky constraint.

Visited the Wpg Children's Museum today and loved seeing all the books everywhere. Great connections to the exhibits and a chance for a calm moment in the middle of excitement.
