The testimony from the witnesses who spoke up in court that day was incredibly powerful and is highlighted in the order, and is worth a read!

While there were certainly a number of, um, colorful moments… the outcome of this hearing on the merits was a preliminary injunction against the government’s extreme restrictions on access to counsel in Minnesota: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

BIG WIN: We won a court order to again block the Trump-Vance admin from transferring noncitizens out of Minnesota and protect their access to counsel. This decision sends a clear message: the admin cannot evade accountability.

It's so depressing that Bowser's record on the way out is going to be to saddle DC for years with gigantic surface parking lots, a pathetic FLUM, and another term of Anthony Hood. What a disastrous final year for housing policy in DC.

That's what I figured when I first saw headlines about it, this was the first time I heard more details and based on this discussion at least it's so different from that (and so much more interesting)

That was my initial reaction when I first saw headlines about this project a year or two ago, but the reality is much more interesting I promise!

Not really a caricature, his stated position is opposing building bike lanes where it involves losing parking or travel lanes. Not sure where you can build a bike lane if that's your stance! The only place I'm spitballing is assuming that he also has existing lanes he wants to dismantle.

Aman George @amantgeorge.bsky.social · 01/03/2026
Fair enough, I just think it's not accurate to call KM "multimodal" or suggest his GGW responses on bike issues were not representative of his (actual, long-held, very public) views. I would wager that a Mayor KM would rip up more miles of bike lanes than he would build.

This is bonkers IMO. McDuffie's GGW questionnaire was consistent with his LONG record in office. Is there a *single* on-street PBL project in DC that he has supported? I'm sure people can find reasons to support KM for mayor, but "he secretly supports bikers" isn't reality-based or credible.

Depends what you are maximizing for? If you are maximizing for the lock not getting cut, there is no substitute for a grinder proof lock. But they are heavy and expensive. Folding locks are much more convenient, but breakable if someone wants to steal your bike thebestbikelock.com/security/ang...

Just because you have standing doesn't mean you win (or even get any meaningful relief). Frivolous litigation exists and the courts already have tools to deal with it. IMO it's a bigger problem that so much unlawful government action can go unchallenged because of standing doctrine.

I think the emoluments provision is not strong enough. Whatever strengthening of the emoluments clause were to happen should require divestment of outside financial interests and have a judicial enforcement mechanism that isn't reliant on Congress or the executive.

I did not know this about Wisconsin and it is extremely funny and absurd. My favorite thing I've learned this week, easily. www.politico.com/news/2025/04...
A partial screenshot of an article; the screenshot reads: "Reshaping state budgets through the partial veto is a longstanding act of gamesmanship in Wisconsin between the governor and Legislature, as lawmakers try to craft bills in a way that is largely immune from creative vetoes."A partial screenshot of an article; the screenshot reads: "Evers’s partial veto in 2023 increased how much revenue K-12 public schools can raise per student by $325 a year until 2425. Evers took language that originally applied the $325 increase for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years and instead vetoed the “20" and the hyphen to make the end date 2425, more than four centuries from now."

Oh dear you’re going to want to read this. Looks like DOGErs were caught exfiltrating NLRB data, likely on unions, for private (seemingly Elony) use. This is must read. What we’ve all suspected. But now details. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

A whistleblower's disclosure details how DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data
A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

Embarrassing that this lawsuit had to be brought by a handful of individual small businesses. What exactly is the point of the Chamber of Commerce if it can't bring itself to fight the single most significant and economically destructive government action of any of our lifetimes?

Just catastrophic. The Court is basically saying that the government gets to illegally terminate thousands of contracts at one time, with no individualized determinations, but litigants have to challenge the government's decision in piecemeal litigation. Brutally asymmetric.

Dems need to focus energy on bringing independents & Rs into the coalition to save American greatness. So far I don't see good evidence that Dems are expanding the map or the coalition in ways that are different from the patterns since 2016. And that's just not gonna be enough. /4

Dems winning the House without putting real pressure on the Senate is just not going to be good enough. If this country is in a perilous moment of crisis, it will take more than the 2017/18 pattern of Mobilizing The Resistance to set us on the right track. 3/

Aman George @amantgeorge.bsky.social · 02/04/2025
But what it did *not* lead to was Dems flipping any competitive Senate seats in less red places like Texas, Florida, Indiana, Missouri. In my mind, a 15 point overperformance in special elections points to a continued national stalemate and Dems unable to overcome Senate geography. 2/

Here's my pessimistic-for-D's take on last night. The D special election overperformance seemed to be in the ~15 point range. Go back and look at 2017 specials and that number is about the same. It led to winning the House and holding a bunch of dicey Senate seats in 2018. 1/

His platform is unparalleled. He could do a primetime address and people would pay attention. And he could credibly say that he isn't doing this because he wants to run for office or win any political power for himself. We need leadership & big moments *now* without waiting for elections. /4
