EXCEPTIONALISM IN CRISIS, by @alysbeverton.bsky.social. For many Americans in the 19thc, Mexico was regarded as the unstable, uncivilized, revolution-prone nation to the South - an example of what the US would never be. The Civil War made them revisit these assumptions. uncpress.org/book/9781469...
