Is it okay to agree with what someone says but not the way in which they say it?

Exercise can be very therapeutic for mental health, but it is critical to distinguish this from exercise driven by mental ill-health, such as eating disorders. Those who profit from promoting exercise as a wellness intervention need to understand this.

We can restrict children’s access to harmful social media while also demanding that platforms are made safe enough for them. This should not be framed as either/or.

Feeling undeserving is such a huge part of many people's eating disorders, including but not only feeling undeserving of food. It doesn't help when those who are supposed to care make them feel unworthy of that care.

Not everything framed as ‘harm reduction’ actually reduces harm. We should be careful about presenting starvation/overexercise as harm reduction, as everybody has different physical requirements, and what may be less harmful for one person can be extremely harmful for another.

The encouragement – explicit and implicit – of disordered eating by people in authority and celebrities makes me so angry because they are manufacturing progressive 'new normals' that make recovery from eating disorders increasingly difficult.

I wrote this lived experience article to highlight why experiential knowledge must be valued in eating disorder care. I ask professionals to “be our therapeutic allies while we put our faith in you.” Please read and share if this matters to you also: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

The importance of learning from people with lived experiences of eating disorders - Journal of Eating Disorders
Improving eating disorder (ED) care in a meaningful and equitable way requires clinicians and researchers to learn from people with lived experiences (PWLE) of EDs. Thus, epistemic injustice faced by individuals who are denied the right to share their experiential knowledge with professionals is a barrier to improving ED care. The present commentary builds on a two-part article series published last year in the Journal of Eating Disorders, where recommendations for improving ED care are offered from my lived experience and quality improvement (QI) perspective. In this complementary piece, I present examples of lessons that I have learnt since the 2025 article series was written, thereby highlighting the wider importance of learning from PWLE. Specifically, I discuss lessons that I have learnt from ED sufferers diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD), male ED sufferers, and longstanding ED sufferers. The complexity and diversity of their lived experiences lead to the conclusion that all-inclusive ED care models must be built using the precious building blocks of knowledge that PWLE offer us.

I am still waiting for responses to 48 email requests made since 2024 for research articles that are not open access. Collectively, they would cost £1000s to purchase unless I were affiliated with an institution, in which case they would be free. This is not epistemic justice.

Bone and muscle weigh more than fat, yet weight-loss drugs are advertised as 'fat jabs' / 'skinny jabs'. They are bone-loss jabs, height-loss jabs (as osteoporosis causes height loss), muscle-loss jabs, brain-loss jabs (as starvation causes brain atrophy), and much more...
