Does this sign mean you must have a group of five in order to use the lift? I love the ambiguity of our language when it is used in such ways.

This week I sighted mince tarts and plum puddings in my local supermarket. I guess hot cross buns are next week. And they continue to tell us it's what customers are demanding. Yeah, right...

My late friend, Terry Denton was a true creative. His distinctive illustrating style made his work instantly recognizable. He was the Australian equivalent of Quentin Blake. His pen is stilled, his legacy continues to spread and inspire young readers.

It's a total disincentive to research items on the web. It only results in being bombarded on every social media platform you visit with a slew of unwanted ads and promotions. You are then compelled to invest time in blocking them and removing the garbage!

The Coalition announces a plan to rewrite the national curriculum, emphasising “pride” in the Australian flag and Western culture. Sounds like they want to take us back to the 1950's in pursuit of some mythical golden era of education. One year teacher qualifications included!

Overheard: A young women passes by, talking on her phone... 'And I said, like, hello.' I immediately began to ponder what she said that was like hello. After all, there are several options.

One September morning my early morning walk took me past the Warragul Football Ground. As I walked around its perimeter, I was surprised to see a heron prowling the half forward flank. It certainly wasn't on the wing... Expect the unexpected.

One day in 1839, Robert Cornelius sat for 15 minutes in front of a hand-built camera made of opera glass and sheets of copper. His picture became the first “selfie” ever taken. Selfies- so yesterday. Take that modernistas!

The hoopla and theatrics surrounding NFL are slightly more engaging than the game itself which by its stop/start nature, I find quite disengaging. I lived in NYC for 6 years and tried my best to connect, but it failed to thrive. Watched 5 minutes in Melbourne.

Initially the uninformed were saying teachers were following left wing ideology, now it’s the curriculum discriminating against boys. This has all the hallmarks of rage baiting, headline seeking, claptrap. The media is complicit in giving this errant nonsense oxygen.

Writing research data shows children provided with opportunities to write every day begin to compose even when they are not actually writing. They begin to think about their writing beyond the confines of the classroom. Writing moves away from just being a 'school thing.'
