Alvar Lagerlöf @alvar.dev · 08/10/2026No, not when typing them imo. That feels I'm constrained by my fingers perhaps, but I'm directly putting my brain state on screen, not first transforming it to another form of state. So perhaps I mean transformation is bad, not transfer. In that way, writing a book or blog post can be flow too. 100

Alvar Lagerlöf @alvar.dev · 07/10/2026Explaining corrections to someone/something else might the the furthest I ever feel from flow state. Perhaps flow state requires that there is no transfer of state. And no use of language to perform actions. Both of those seem to use a much less pleasant part of the brain. 110
Alvar Lagerlöf @alvar.dev · 03/10/2026I don't like names because they: - Can take time to pick, disrupting flow - Are sometimes badly named - Are often not updated to reflect changed code - Can be misinterpreted and used for the wrong thing (more of a problem with global style sheets) 110
Alvar Lagerlöf @alvar.dev · 03/10/2026I'll often take something that lets me do less naming and naming lookup over separation of concerns. It's not as bad of a problem with component scoped styles. Perhaps a lot of the styling should be based on semantic html, but it doesn't go all the way. 110

Alvar Lagerlöf @alvar.dev · 13/08/2026I'm in what I think is a pretty unique situation. I'm in Japan with 5 people. Two of them do not know English well at all. The language we have the most knowledge in is Indonesian, which I started learning 28 days ago. We're just barely able to communicate basic things. 000
