It's not like this is the first time his actions have caused calls for his resignation. qburgh.com/demand-aaron... He was previously seen on video encouraging his 5 year old son to smoke a cigar in 2020. Oh and also involving another child in another not age appropriate activity.
This is not Bernstine's first controversy in office.

In 2020, Republican legislative leaders called for Bernstine's resignation after videos surfaced showing him encouraging his then-5-year-old son to smoke a cigar and use derogatory language about women. Other footage showed Bernstine involving another child in an adult-themed "Fuck, Marry, Kill" game.

Bernstine later apologized for what he characterized as jokes that went too far.

"It was an APD officer who later arrived and cut open the young mans shirt, revealing a deep hole between his shoulder blades." DHS Use of Force Policy requires rendering first aid. The words "end of any perceived public safety threat" and "if properly trained and equipped to do so" trouble me.
As soon as practicable following a use of force and the end of any perceived public safety
threat, DHS LEOs shall obtain appropriate medical assistance for any subject who has visible
or apparent injuries, complains of being injured, or requests medical attention. This may
include rendering first aid if properly trained and equipped to do so, requesting emergency
medical services, and/or arranging transportation to an appropriate medical facility.

Ohio with a seemingly strong attempt currently to stand up against data centers. I will be watching to see if it passes.
The bill will require voter approval for every new construction or expansion of a data center with peak electric load over one megawatt for every municipality and township within five miles of the project.

Permits issued without voter approval would be considered void.

It would also impose new air emission and water discharge standards on a range of substances including PFAS, glycols, metals, and other organic compounds. These standards would apply to existing data centers after eighteen months.

Owners of data centers would also be held financially responsible for water supply and water pressure impacts associated with their centers.

On the fiscal side, the legislation would ban local governments from offering property tax incentives for data centers and power plants associated with them. It would also require public disclosure of all data center agreements associated with development and supply.

This legislation would significantly slow down the development of data centers in Ohio, if not stop it altogether.

As a dem governor of a state with majority dem house and senate, it's shameful you maintain working with ICE. You can't use "cheering on ICE" as an insult when you allow MA to participate and aid ICE. Partnering with ICE is hateful and dangerous in itself. Do better. boltsmag.org/massachusett...
It was no coincidence that ICE was waiting for Perez on the day of his release. The Massachusetts Department of Correction, which had custody of him for all those decades, formally partners with ICE to transfer people who have finished their sentences: Since 2007, the state prison system has participated in the federal 287(g) program and, as part of its contract, regularly sends people exiting Massachusetts prisons directly into ICE custody.

In fact, Massachusetts is the only state that voted against Donald Trump in 2024, and where the governor is a Democrat, where a state agency is contracting with the 287(g) program. It’s also the only state where Democrats fully control the state government that has such an agreement.

I cant help but emphasize how massive of a shift it will be to require states to partially pay for SNAP. Removing the ability to provide food to those in need due to something out of their control is cruelty. And thats what they want.
Provisions of the Republican-backed law that President Donald Trump signed last year that go into effect in October 2027 will require states with high SNAP error rates — the percentage of benefits that are overpaid, underpaid or go to recipients who are ineligible — to begin covering some of the program’s costs. It marks a stark change for SNAP, which is solely funded by the federal government.

In an online briefing hosted by the left-leaning think tank Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the American Academy of Pediatrics and Invest in Louisiana, speakers said Congress should use the government funding process to protect access to affordable food for American families.

Sharon Parrott, the center’s president, said that Republicans are “looking right past this emergency” and using their current budget resolution to help farmers struggling with increased costs that have resulted from Trump’s tariffs and oil prices that have been driven up by the war with Iran — but not low-income grocery shoppers.

The state Board of Registration in Medicine on July 16 revoked the right of Dr. Jacquelyn J. Starer, 72, to renew her medical license, which expired in March 2025, according to records.
In a statement, the board said it found that Starer, an Ashland resident first licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts in 1983, “was among a crowd which stormed and breached the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, and that she struck a Metropolitan Police Officer with her closed fist.”
Starer, who is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as general health and preventive medicine, had previously entered into a voluntary agreement not to practice following her arrest in December 2022, officials said.

Details on two brothers who have some seriously shady business pasts and helped start up the freedom fuel stations. Lots of costly judgements against them. Theyre most likely selling gas at a loss, too. Screenshot from this article: www.audacy.com/kywnewsradio...
The brothers have legal issues
Legal filings detail a series of judgments against the Kazmis, who failed to comply with a court order and have been accused of obscuring their finances and dodging service processors as a growing list of former suppliers and franchisors sought payment.

In February, a federal judge in New Jersey ordered the Kazmis to pay over $600,000 to a fuel supplier that accused the brothers of stealing gas. The supplier alleged in court filings that it cut the brothers off after they refused to sign a new contract. But the Kazmis exploited a security lapse and gained access to the supplier’s fuel depot. Over a ten-day period in August 2021, tanker trucks absconded with more than 230,000 gallons of fuel, according to the supplier’s court filings. A judge ruled in the supplier’s favor, finding the brothers unlawfully took the gas.

The fuel supplier says it has yet to receive payment.

Syed Kazmi was hit with a $380,000 judgment two years ago in a suit brought by 7-Eleven, the convenience chain, which accused him of “dishonest, unethical, immoral” conduct while operating a franchise in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, that was flagged for unsanitary conditions that included trash issues and a rodent infestation. The company also said “tens of thousands of dollars” of cigarettes ordered from 7-Eleven on credit had gone missing.

A federal judge held a company operated by Shamikh Kazmi in contempt in 2022 in a trademark case brought by BP America.

Though BP had severed ties with Kazmi’s Diwan Petrol two years prior to the legal action, the corporation’s signage had not been removed from the gas station despite a court order to do so. The judge authorized U.S. Marshals to accompany BP workers to remove it.

A man who answered a call to a number listed for the Kazmi brothers said he was not the right person to talk to and instead directed inquiries to the Freedom Fuel Network’s website. But that website has no contact information, phone number or mailing ad…

I wouldve thought they already use CLEAR by Thomson Reuters, so ive been wondering what they'll get now. Pay wall on the article so couldnt get too far in it.
Involvement in mass surveillance

Thomson Reuters owns and operates the Consolidated Lead Evaluation and Reporting (CLEAR) database,[116][117][118] which scrapes personal and identifying data for use in law enforcement, corporate security, and fraud investigations.[119] Per the company's marketing, CLEAR compiles public records, phone records, utility records, social media information, credit history, motor vehicle registration data, and automatic license plate reader scans to create files on its subjects.[120] CLEAR has been the subject of numerous lawsuits alleging invasions of privacy and other violations of civil liberties.[121][122][123][124]

In November 2019, two groups of legal scholars and human rights activists called on Thomson Reuters to cease providing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Palantir Technologies access to information through CLEAR, which has enabled the deportation of illegal immigrants.

The end result after the legal battle was an ugly combo of factors. The bills vetoed were for good causes which is why this feels like a loss. 2/3
The decision was a long-sought win for legislative Democrats, but in a veto letter issued Friday afternoon, Whitmer said bills were effectively overripe because they would have an effective date of April 2025.

Signing them into law now would lead to "endless litigation" and "overwrite law that has since gone into effect" while complicating the budget, Whitmer wrote.

"Implementing these bills retroactively would impose an insurmountable administrative burden on the state and all Michiganders affected," she added, telling lawmakers she was "regrettably" vetoing them.

The American Geophysical Union has also spearheaded the U.S. Academic Alliance for the IPCC, an effort to nominate American scientists to work on reports by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world’s leading scientific authority on global warming. The federal government typically nominates U.S. scientists for these positions, but declined to do so in 2025.

It’s not the only organization that’s stepping up. The science nonprofit Climate Central recently launched its own version of NOAA’s billion-dollar disaster database, which tracked the country’s costliest weather events before it was discontinued by the Trump administration in May. The nonprofit Data Foundation established a coalition in 2025 to monitor and report U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, while the EPA has proposed terminating its own greenhouse gas reporting program.

Former federal scientists have teamed up to revive NOAA’s now-defunct science and information resource climate.gov with a new website. And multiple organizations across the country have rushed to archive federal datasets while the Trump administration altered or deleted them by the hundreds in 2025.

Response from MI Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson & State AG Dana Nessel. States run elections. Michigan law allows for Election Challengers (see link for details in 3rd reply below) The regime instead intends to cause confusion as the DOJ makes and pushes unsubstantiated claims.
"The courts have been clear time and time again: states run elections, not the federal government,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Michigan law provides not only a variety of ways to vote, but also plenty of opportunities to get involved in the election process. Residents can witness the public logic and accuracy testing of our tabulators and volunteer on election day as poll workers or election inspectors. The law even provides parameters for federal and congressional poll monitors. We encourage everyone to participate and see for themselves how secure and fair our elections are – but make no mistake, my office stands ready to hold accountable those who attempt to unlawfully interfere with or intimidate Michigan election workers.”"Michigan’s elections are transparent, accurate, accessible, and secure," said Secretary Benson. "And while the US Department of Justice continues to pursue baseless allegations to confuse voters about those facts, we welcome anyone who wants to - in compliance with the law - observe Michigan’s elections process. When they do, they will see what we already know to be true - Michigan’s professional local clerks are committed to ensuring our elections are safe, accessible, and fair. Voters can trust that their vote is secure, and that clerks will count it according to the law. We will continue to make sure every eligible Michigan citizen can cast their ballot with confidence, free from interference and obstruction."

We are aware of an Al generated

story currently circulating online that falsely claims a beluga whale escaped from an aquarium research facility in Seward, Alaska and returned to Cook Inlet to reunite with her calf. As the only research facility with a public aquarium in Seward, Alaska, we can confirm that this information is false, and the events described never occurred.

Unfortunately, Al generated stories and images can sometimes appear convincing, even when they are completely fictional.

We pride ourselves in sharing the work our team does transparently, and trusted information about our wildlife response efforts, marine mammal conservation, and research can always be found on our official website and verified social media accounts. We also encourage looking to trusted sources like established news organizations that verify information before publication and trusted agencies.

Learn the real story about how Alaska SeaLife Center cared for two orphaned Cook Inlet beluga calves through our Wildlife Response Program (one in 2012 and the other in 2017). Their care contributed to peer reviewed scientific research that has advanced our understanding of beluga whale rehabilitation and conservation. Below is part of the statement provided by Iowa democrats in response. These workers may receive offers from the company taking over, but they'll lose access to the state worker retirement system for Iowa. The statement does well to mention the disastrous switch to privatized medicaid. 2/2
With just months left in her lame-duck tenure, Gov. Reynolds has made the unilateral decision to disrupt the lives of hundreds of public employees, severing their ties to IPERS and leaving them at the mercy of a private, out-of-state company," Sen. Janice Weiner (D-lowa City) said. "We've walked this privatization road before to disastrous effect. Thousands upon thousands of lowans have suffered under lowa's privatized Medicaid mistake, without any cost savings for taxpayers. The Reynolds Administration tried this less than a year ago with the healthcare staff in our correctional facilities. There were no savings to be found there - some even predicted that costs would double. Why should we expect a better outcome here?"

This timeline is so unpredictable. I am obviously not endorsing anything by DeSantis but rather calling out the hypocrisy.
“You have got massive money flowing in here particularly from very, very wealthy people,” DeSantis, a Republican, said. “And so it’s like, why would you want to have all this wealth come in and then just price middle-class people out? I would capitalize … on that wealth by relieving middle class people of a burden so that they can actually afford to live in Miami-Dade like back when it was less expensive.”

Some of Miami’s richest homeowners include Google co-founders Larry Page, worth $257 billion, and Sergey Brin, worth $237 billion; Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, worth $224 billion; and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, worth $222 billion.

For less wealthy, rural counties, DeSantis said Florida should make available state grants to help them pay for essential services to make up the shortfall in revenue.
