I can tell from his burial records that he was a member of the Kolomear Friends Association (a landsmanshaft), which I actually photographed a bunch of their materials at YIVO last year. And indeed his name and his relative Herman's are in the member list, but sadly no other mention.

I find interesting old NY musicians by doing a strict search for their hometown+musician in NY records, and here I found this guy from Kolomyya (then in Galicia, today Ukraine), Benjamin Dauber (1883–1970), cornet/trumpet player, bandleader, restaurateur, later life insurance salesman🕵️

Rathaus also wrote a kind of retrospective about his uncle a year after his death in a Berlin Jewish newspaper. So far it hits the same points as a lot of the Yiddish-language biographical mentions and I suspect they were drawing on it. sammlungen.ub.uni-frankfurt.de/cm/periodica...

a lot of the digitized performance scores have the stamp of the theatre and director on the front covers, I think I posted about this when the YIVO Vilna collection was first put online a few years ago... this is the cover label of one of the scores from the same operetta

for readers of German, he gets about a page-long biography in Joachim Stutschewsky's Jüdische Spielleute („Klezmorim“), originally published in Hebrew translation in 1959 and only finally published in German in 2019 by Harrassowitz.

waren in ganz Galizien bekannt.

Während Chune in Lemberg in elenden Verhältnissen
Schicksal jener Epoche.

a rare Ladino-language ad for these kinds of restaurants from La Vara, June 1937. (probably not so rare if I was searching Ladino keywords instead of "Roumanian".) Trying to sound out the names of the musicians being listed and none are ringing a bell, maybe written differently in Ladino..

Grand (re)opening of such a restaurant on Allen street which was owned by Thomashefsky earlier on. With entertainment Jack Boogich (1889–1950, violinist born in Iași to the Bughici fam.), John Stein (?) and Meyer Libavits (probably Max Leibowitz, 1884–1942, well-known klezmer violinist born in Iași)
large ad in Yiddish and a bit of English about the grand opening of Roumanian Village Restaurant and Broilings, 181 Allen Street. in the middle are photos of three musicians, Jack Stein, Jack Boogich and Meyer Libovitz. the paragraphs in Yiddish are mainly boasting about the food and entertainment that will be offered at the restaurant.

A lesser known member of this Galician klezmer family in NYC, who were mainly from Skalat, although Jacob here (1881–1938) seems to have been born in Lviv. I'm not clear on his relation to the more famous bandleader Sigmund Goldring (1888–1947) who appears in a lot more klezmer sources in NY.
