UPDATE: with some work with cloudflare storage, URLs are now significantly shorter

010

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I mean. hm. i could still achieve it with github pages I'd just need a different server to store data in.

110

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

well. okay, the config URLs are a little long, and I haven't tested whether they would break with too many characters or too many legend labels.. so I don't expect it to be eprfect. The limitations of a serverless webpage means I can't have people generate shorter URLs or something

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

updated to have an exportable/shareable config via URL! this exports both custom legends and image configuration. For this to work for images, you have to upload them externally to another website (such as imgur) and copy their direct URLs to the new "Edit Images" section

"All Applications", if we want to be precise on what is meant by "overall"

110

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

If I were the UI designer I would have designed it to be like Zoom Workplace - 676MB / 15.67GB Overall - 10.66GB / 15.67GB or something. just to match the bars as well

110

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

It seems decently labelled to me, though I can see how the "15.67GB" at the bottom may cause confusion

110

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

zoom wants to show you how much memory it uses for whatever reason, I suppose.

110

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

you have 5GB of free memory left to use

010

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

what it's saying is that 10.66GB out of 15.67GB of memory is currently *in use* by your computer overall (by all applications, not just Zoom). Zoom by itself takes up 676MB of memory

Wait. fuck . there are a couple of bugs with the legend

020

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

I imagine for that I need to either figure out a way to serialize the data so people aren't left with ridiculously long URLs or have people import/export a config file

120

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

later on i'll figure out a way to have both images and legends be exported/sharable so you can share "templates" with people

120

ShuuenNoShioriFan1713 @alt255.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

works fine on mobile too you just need to scroll sideways

[ #alt255-stuff ] i made a ship chart maker tool altcode255.github.io/ship_chart_m... features: - upload pictures for a variable number of characters - editable legend labels and colors - ability to attach 1+ colored lines between any two images/characters - can remove lines by clicking on them
