Ah, I wish I could go back to the days of Second Life before generative AI, but given the current situation, that might not be possible.

Cosmas and Damian are named after a pair of Christian twins healers who were martyred for their faith in 3rd century AD and were canonized as saints. The pair also appear in Kowloon's Gate successor game Planet Laika.

A merchant in Kowloon's Gate says the Mushroom Dealer "dresses like Francis Xavier", the famous Jesuit missionary who went to Japan. The reference is probably meant to evoke 16th cent. European fashion, but Xavier's popular image in Japan actually doesn't wear the ruff around his neck.

It would be really nice if folks in #SecondLife would follow this trend as well to make sure the SLURL preview images for their stores, clubs, and hangouts include a NO AI banner. We need to show unified support across all metaverse platforms!

For the 10th anniversary of Kowloon's Gate, original designers of the game got together and recreated the Kowloon Walled City in Second Life in 2007. Technically the first official piece of Kowloon's Gate media available to the West, the region Kowloon is still accessible in Second Life to this day.

The player never had to pay to hire navigators to traverse the hutongs of Kowloon's Gate. The reason for this, though this is never specified in the game itself (only in the Deluxe Playstatoin Guide), could be that the director of Kowloon Navi is none other than the bartender of Dragon Hotel, Rich.

Kowloon's Gate references the Nayin system 納音 of Chinese astrology when it refers to the elements of dates. The thing is, 22 May 1997 actually isn't a Day of the Fire (Thunderbolt 霹靂火) but Undersea Metal (海中金) under this system. The sequel Kowloon's Rhizome elaborates on this discrepancy.

ファイアの日（a day of the fire）

Japanese media including Kowloon's Gate usually pronounce Kowloon as Kuuron クーロン, but the native Cantonese pronunciation is closer to Gau Lung. "Kuuron" can be traced back to 1886, when Meiji Japanese officials of the Shanghai consulate presumably pronounced the English name "Kowloon" this way.
