#LitHodgepodge 12 Lastak would value directness and honesty, and relative optimism and innocence. The former two didn't exist in the environment she grew up in, and the latter two is what she doesn't have.

I wish I knew. It's all WIP this and WIP that at this point, and while I have had plenty of good suggestions from everyone, nothing has really worked so far.

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak would be good at archery if it wasn't for her shoulder. She'd be good at equestrian stuff too (small, light, grew up riding) and fencing. If money was no object she would pick something horse-related.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 12 For the board game most of my character play to kill time, you need: 1. a board. 2. game pieces, usually 8 for each player. 3. 5 D2s. Traditionally a type of seed is used. It's not dangerous unless you attempt to eat the game piece or dice.

it is lacking in whatever quality it is, which can be used creative and colourful descriptions and insults if one wishes to do so. While standard forms exist, these can go at the end of almost any word, leaving the meaning to the listener's imagination (used in some dialects).

#Conlangity 12 Adjectives generally go in front of the word they describe (or after if you're feeling poetic, it's fine if it's obvious from context). There are some endings that can be tacked onto words to change them into descriptions. For example, 'epōs' tacked to the end of a word indicates

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak has a healthy curiosity she can postpone but not turn off. It is one of the things that keeps getting her into situations.

#Conlangity 11 The first and second person pronouns distinguish between singular and plural. Third person pronouns are distinguish between animate/non-animate as well. Gendered forms exist but they're mostly obsolete. Cases are indicated with particles for these so pronouns don't change with case.

That's not too likely to work. The earring is mostly a cultural thing and she doesn't have a strong attachment to it.

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak would chose results. Her internal code is pretty messed up anyway and she knows it, so it's not even a consideration. The only thing she does try is to hurt as few people as possible.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 10 There are a few. There's all sorts of games that are played during the four (five?) big festivals and while you will get a gift, the real prize is bragging rights. It's archery, horseback archery, a bunch of varied team games (some can get rough), wrestling, etc.

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak is quite close for about the two times she can draw her bow, and the lawyer is surprisingly accurate with a sword when she has to be, but the price has to go to the guy with a targeting system built in, Lukan.

#OctoberWorldbuilder 9 There are a few. There are a couple of chess-like games, checkers, and one that's sort of like checkers which are super popular, and there are a few traditional games that are extremely popular such as a dice-based racing game which needs a surprising amount of strategy.

they don't change the word itself. They use articles, but they don't change. There are a few irregular nouns (mainly with pluralisation), but there aren't a lot of them.

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
#Conlangity 9 This is straight up homework now 😅 There are very few things that change nouns, namely pluralisation and negation. There is a animate/non-animate divide in general which changes which version of these is used (and a few other things). Cases are marked by particles, so

#AwesomeCharacters Most people wear at least a pair of earrings (it's a cultural thing, mages tend to be fancy). Lastak only wears a pair of plain metal hoop earrings, but most other characters wear more (elaborate earrings, bracelets and necklaces, fancy clasps and brooches, hair ornaments etc).

level. They mostly play within the group again mostly due to schedules. Lastak is probably below average in these because she doesn't practice.

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
It's a little hard to join a team when you're working as a mage because schedules are erratic and you end up away for days at a time. Also others have to trust you to not use magic during the game. Almost every character plays boardgames and there are a couple of characters who are professional

#OctoberWorldbuilders 8 Lastak used to go a variety of martial arts, but doesn't do it regularly anymore. There are a few who do sports. There's one who's a serious amateur wrestler, and there are a few who do team sports recreationally (as in play for their 'suburb' once in a while).

or end of the word that can emphasize or negate it to give it some other property, and these are limited in number but not consistent (the three languages in a trench coat thing). Examples include the pluralisation suffixes (limited use), ordinal number suffix (essential), and negative markers. 2/2

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
#Conlangity 8 There are compound words that combine two or more common words together to form a common concept, e.g.: sun + to wake: sunrise. These are generally well defined, but there are limited sounds and compound words can get long. There are some particles that are added to the beginning 1/2

It's broadly fantasy with lots of worldbuilding, with a dash of the mystery genre. Beyond that, I have no clue, I'm just putting characters in situations and writing the incident report.

#AwesomeCharacters Lastak will go for the most convenient option that's also cheap (she's been on a budget for a long time, it's a reflex. She also has associations with expensive food). Maybe a food cart? She'll go to a hole in the wall type place if she can get a local guide to find one for her.

navigating by the stars is the most reliable option. A lot of the wildlife is also very good at camouflage. There are very few ruins though (the people rarely build out of material that lasts). If anything looks built but there aren't any people around, run.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 7 First of all, if you're wandering around there, turn back and hope you get out of there fast enough. It's mostly a mixture of plains and craggy hills covered in grass or exposed rock, sometimes with ice or snow. It's wide open with no trees. Compasses mostly work, but

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Also important: you don't need to say anything that's obvious from context (including particles but you'll sound a certain way if you omit them), so full sentences aren't always necessary and in some cases you can omit everything except the verb.

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
#Conlangity 7 The hard part begins 😂 Inawlo is usually SOV, but the word order is flexible. The case is marked with particles, and there's a whole variety of them. This means you can technically use, say, SVO all the time but you'll sound weird. Adjectives/descriptors come before the word.

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
#AwesomeCharacters Lastak rarely plans a response to a situation before she gets there, because invariably they get new information that changes their perspective. She's good at improvising. Her long term plans are a series of way points rather than anything concrete.

#LitHodgepodge 6 The only one I can think of that won't be too spoilery is the team's lawyer who is also more or less the mother archetype. She's not obviously nurturing, but she looks out for the whole team and keeps them from being arrested, and she tries to get their lives on track.

beautiful and functional clothes. Additionally, they get plant-based clothes from other peoples, which they use a lot as well. Most importantly, mobility is everything, and they're traditionally dependent on horses for that. 3/3

to convert grass into something edible such as milk or meat. There are some edible plants but there isn't a lot of them, and they trade with other peoples as well. The traditional clothes are mostly animal based as well, wool, leather, and furs which are used to make 2/3

#OctoberWorldbuilders 6 A big problem is the lack of accessible water, so they know all the locations of streams and springs and guard them jealously. There aren't a lot of these so the water is precious. You can melt snow sometimes in some places. For food, they're mostly reliant on their herds 1/3

The first is good if you want to talk to someone in the street and ask for directions, and is generally acceptable in most cases. The second is super formal and is falling out of use except on special occasions (luckily for Lastak who can't pronounce it properly) 2/2

A L N A perera @alnaperera.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
#Conlangity 6 This is still a bit of a blank space so far. I have the casual greeting/goodbye that everyone uses (kaisʉ) and the super formal greeting which roughly translates to long life and good health (there is a _lot_ of nuance lost in that translation). Nothing in between so far. 1/2

There is the question of whether they are an antagonist or a victim though. I'm going to love writing them when they become more prominent.
