Been reflecting that right now, the thing I am working on feels like being a mole, I am so immersed in little bits of detail that are needed that I go underground hoping I am going in the right direction and then pop up, somewhat surprised by where I learn I am and try again. Oh to be a bird.

Making something new from scratch is feeling like running a marathon but the route and total length keep changing and there are surprise puzzles and monsters along the course

It’s the rollercoaster. I can’t control what I am going to be told, but I have to control the sense of uncertainty. Sending hugs back.

Theres this unfortunate quirk of waiting for biopsy results and being terrified of what they will be, getting good news then the anxiety simply not lifting. I am relieved yet why can't my mind and body stand down from high alert?

Its that lovely time of year when the spiders that are out and about could wear saddles and be ridden by mice

It unlocked a strange cocktail of emotions. I feel quite shaken by it. Money is such an odd thing.

I found £50 in old paper bank notes yesterday. It was some emergency cash I’d had - a birthday or Christmas present from my mum & dad. I must have had this for nearly 15 years, sitting with a little note written by my mum. From when my dad was still alive. Perhaps he held the notes?

Conversations with a six year old are such a wild ride. Confusing “lesbian” and “thespian” has made my morning 😅 “it’s gay if it’s boys and thespians if it’s girls?”

Would anyone in Bristol like one free ticket to see David Sedaris at the Bristol Beacon on Saturday? I can't make it (I had forgotten I had bought a ticket 🫠)

Getting left nice comments in a collaborative document is such a great little power up boost. "Love this!" is such a little thing to write down, but has immense battery boosting effects.

I feel like the egg gave itself to a higher cause than the biscuits we were making, it allowed me the chance to suppress an initial anger and funnel it into a character building exercise. This experience should be done on corporate away days.

All in all it was a great opportunity to cope with something unexpected and rather unpleasant to deal with.

Daughter accidentally cracked an egg into the full cutlery drawer, it leaked through a tiny gap in the front of the drawer, then slid horizontally along the top of the cupboard below, before dripping on to everything in there too, then making its way out the front of the cupboard onto the floor.

Building work: How much is it going to cost? OK thats a bit more than I had hoped but lets go ahead. Oh. And there are these costs? OK. We need it doing. Plus these costs. These ones need VAT adding to them? And this extra work needs to be done by someone else, on a specific day we don't yet know...

This is a small approach to help encourage the children to read for pleasure, by involving them in what new books the school adds to the library, and hopefully encouraging more conversations about reading and lovely books.

One of the greatest joys I have had recently is making a large, paper maché frog. The frog has gone to live at my daughter's school, where it is going to collect the children's wishes for new books for the library.
Photograph of a paper mache frog sitting on a wall with some flowers behind it. The frog is bright green, has a red ribbon bow tied round its neck and a big, friendly mouth that is open and smiling.

I miss my 6 year old daughter when she is at school. I catch moments of thinking "Oh I wish I could show this to Ripley" or "I hope she is having a nice day and enjoying [whatever the thing for the day is]". She's brutally honest with me that she forgets I exist as soon as she goes into school 😂

Also unlocked another memory to make me feel old: I was in the crowd at Glastonbury 1999 watching SFA when someone drove a van into it and people just climbed on top like it was an everyday thing. Oh to be 15 again with no mobile phone just living in the moment!
