And here's donothon progress! Several of these have been done, but all the audio recordings are still in front of me which is uh a bit intimidating, but at least I'm not having to learn how to do BFE.

The age of Alstraliathon is over, the age of the Hiatus has begun! I will return for a stream as early as November 13th but much more likely November 15th! There may be guerilla gaming streams from various hotels. I love you all, I will try and post photos!

offline from October 11th to November 14th

Nothing alienates me more than the "nerds treating their begging for free toys as a Civil Rights Movement"

"Time to rest" "How do you rest?" "Self flagellating stress spirals of course, how else"

Still figuring out where I land on deadlock. Visually, I love it. The movement stuff is cool. But all mechanics that are PVP aren't good? Like there's a potential for a much better single player game looming over the entire experience.

Its very annoying and now I'm wondering if its worth risking being cancelled by the holdouts of standpoint theory for me to make gender studies content because I y'know *actually* did study that at a graduate level.

I put Timberborn on the schedule partially out of the hope that it'll break me out of my current trend where the only game *really* holding my attention particularly well is Helldivers. ...god I love Helldivers.

And of course in streaming, its just...there's just no reason to care about the big guys unless they're making stuff you like? Just hang out with and talk to the streamers you actually like, everyone will be happier, even the big guys.

And that's being quite late! It was kind of hard not to notice the Rolling Stones, but even *Queen* was missable if you were really into punk, for one example.

I'm just more kind of amused at somebody in 2026 noticing something that was considered common sense among pop culture critics by like, 1995: the default, since grunge at the latest, has to be in a pop culture bubble. It was *easy* to not know who Britney Spears was.

Deeply funny to see somebody in 2026 discovering that there are people who don't listen to the radio and thus are unfamiliar with top radio hits. MY selective blindness causes streamers over 1000CCV to just disappear. Get on my level.

Thief 2 is such a good call on this one. I really should just go and replay that again soon, real antidote to weak action games in the rotation.

Aren't we like, multiple years after they figured out how to improve quantum computing by emulating the entire QC on a non-QC, thus making it not an alternative but a subset of traditional computing?

Schedule for this week! @trentdeadwood.bsky.social and I will be Avatar-ing this evening, and on Thursday I'll be doing more Marriage Advice with @aqshii.bsky.social ! Friday is liable to be painting, but whiskerwood has been calling me...

The rules are so good. I've been trying to convert more people to it, mostly held back by my own laziness around running teaching games.

Thousand Hells absolutely rocks. Probably the most beautiful game I've played in...I don't know how long. I was just stunlocked while streaming it by how gorgeous it was. Made me regret becoming a professor instead of a painter.

I've basically forgotten how to play Opus Magnum and I feel intimidated trying to get back in and do the DLC missions. What a work of art.

Deep Rock Survivor lands in this weird place where I know it is, at some fundamental level, not as good as vampire survivors, but it still feels better? Might just be that I've overplayed Vampire Survivors.

I feel like I undersell Spirit Island incredibly badly every time I try to pitch it to people. Its an absolutely great time to play with people but I can't quite convey what about the game makes it so good. I feel significantly dumber than the game itself in this way.

Almantas, the Old Man @almantasvt.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Infinity N5 remains the best PVP I've ever played, but there are some recent changes that've frustrated me. I'm not alone in this though I think its mostly a matter of some rules being undercosted and given out haphazardly (specifically aerial and +SD). Even then its still S+ tier gaming.

220

Almantas, the Old Man @almantasvt.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Helldivers 2 absolutely has the juice still and I think might be better than ever. There's so many interesting stratagems, enemies feel great (I don't like vote snatchers but that's me), a lot of jank has been smoothed out. Genuinely the game I think about when paying other games.

Almantas, the Old Man @almantasvt.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Just gonna rant about some games I've been playing lately. Mini writing exercise I suppose.

Anki has been my go-to for decades at this point, it is incredibly powerful and just traditional stuff. Other than that I'm pretty much all analogue; notes are just text documents. A lot of people swear by Zotero but I just kind of memorized CMOS so it felt kind of extraneous to me.

Oh sweet, I installed a sketchy 3rd party program that pops up and crashes all the time in order to be able to do that.
