It is crazy to like, think about how a lot of my time has been spent on the internet and I still find myself like. Looking at how some people act and wondering, are you like this in real life. If so, how. Like how do you function I don't even know you and you're giving insufferable energy.

At the same time that honesty does feel good. In the same way it can be destructive it can be cathartic. Like yeah, can't change the world at large but for my own peace of mind and sense of self I can get that off my chest and then carry on.

I have to sell and let you know why it is important to me, a by definition and ratings, a mid anime without spoiling it. It has not been an easy task and I have revised a lot of parts of that review and discussion because quite frankly, I have no idea how to actually do it.

So for me, to write about these two without spoiling things has proved to be extremely difficult. Ray is an anime that got overshadowed by not only the things that it aired with, but many who viewed it and reviewed it largely didn't finish it or care for it because niche within niche.

helps a lot. Because the anime seeks to turn that knowledge and understanding on its head by letting you know it isn't that simple actually. The anime not only helps set up for 2 in characters, but going into 2 without either 1 or the anime significantly weakens some characters and the player's

The anime and 2 are going to be fucking diabolical to write about considering I want you to actually delve into some of the things I talk about, so I avoid spoilers. However the anime HOPES that you at least understand reflectors and the sephirah. It will give an overview, but having full knowledge

to what would male presence do to this scene. Would it add anything? In most cases I personally feel no. If anything it would often detract in some cases like Shihori. It also gives Hinako that central presence that the game wants her to have by relating to her peers strictly.

Side tangent that didn't make it into the thread regarding Blue Reflection. Do I feel like the constraints worked for storytelling? Yes. For me at least. There is a different sort of mean girl energy in cliques in an all girls school versus a co-ed, and even beyond that you can reverse the question

At the time of Ray releasing, I thought the series was already DEAD. Blue reflection 1 came out around 2017, and after Gust got the money from the crowd Ryza attracted and it became clear of the direction Gust was going, I was like alright it’s a wrap the series is dead.

Hell, the fact this series ended up getting a two cour anime series is a surprise because of the “Are we really having an anime based off of a game” problem, and the “Magical girl series number infinity” stigma it had to defeat, like to this day I wonder where that funding came from.

The first game isn’t perfect. Yet for a game left out to die and was anticipated to not find any audience I think it was more than serviceable. Good enough start to a series that could have been under Gust’s belt and distinct enough of an audience from the one Atelier already established.

Even the NPCs you get quests from go through it at times and because of how grounded these problems are, they end up being relatable and real enough to sting.

Nobody feels one note or just a trope. Which given the genre, cast size you would figure someone gets the short end and are as a result forgettable. Nobody in this cast for me are people that I have to think twice on who they were, or what they struggled with.

Everyone feels memorable if you give them the time of day. One character who stands out a lot that I absolutely can NOT talk about because how she is, is supposed to be a knife twist (even if you piece it together). She even calls out how insensitive + invasive the concept of reflectors is

Is there anyone I disliked in 1? No, because everyone has an identity. Gamer who feels she hit her ceiling doing her old passion and decided to quit it, girl who has visceral reactions to being average, tsundere rival, girl who has no inner thoughts and vocalizes them while also being a prodigy.

Not just with some of the cast and their depth, but the game as a whole (to be expected if you cut dialogue in a game that had to be carried by dialogue).

If you speed through just getting the required number of mission points and go to the next chapter up until the end of the game, while all of these characters you’ll meet will still be prevalent in main story and not left by the wayside I do not think you’ll be able to walk away satisfied.

Not just for the gameplay benefits but because of how this game is constructed, the best parts end up coming from fleshing the characters out on these dates and events provided for them.

So, for maximum exposure to each character, you’ll be spending at the very least 12 days with each one on top of their events. I fully recommend that you do so too, in fact I nearly beg of you to do so if you were to try out this game for yourself.

Once you’ve done a certain number of dates with that character AND you’re past a set story point you’ll have an event with that character the next time you speak to them. Either the event will be strictly a talk, or you’ll enter their heartscape and sort out (another) issue they’re having.

There are a bunch of set locations in this game that you can take each character to, who will have their own set of dialogue for that location, and then gain a set amount of bond experience.

12 dates, 6 events. I promised I would come back, but interacting with the characters who are unplayable in this game is done through aforementioned dating.

Unfortunately, a lot of the cute shit it does here is unlocked later in the game, so I have to dock some credit there. I figure it’s because they didn’t want to overwhelm the player immediately, but I think starting off strong with the full arsenal of options would have caught attention faster.

The game felt like it wanted to let the player have more control outside of strictly their own turns, and being able to manipulate that time in-between goes a long way in making the combat feel more active.

As you progress through the game more options get added such as utilizing resources to guard enemy attacks (even countering if you pop the shield right as they attack), healing outside of your own turn, delaying the enemy turn and progressing your own.

Some skills will delay the opponent, some will delay the user further back for their next turn with a rate usually corresponding to how powerful the move is, and others will activate after a certain number of actions on the bar.
