And "us" here is people who have zero association with the project LMAO. I didn't notice any of the actual devs active in the Discord, so somehow they've cultivated an atmosphere more akin to a social movement than a software forum. Unsurprising given that it's a shot across the bow at Adobe.

The bug fix thread had more posts than any of the creation threads and I think that says all I need to know about it. Fuck Adobe, but we've had open source alternatives forever.

Dipped my head in the AI-decompiled Photoshop Discord and it's just people screaming "Luddites will have to bow down to us now" "what corporation do we destroy next" "sign up for my class where I teach you how to earn $4000 a week on Youtube" and just absolute shit in the creation channels

That would really only be one or two governments, maybe, and there's nothing stopping us from having done that in the past 40 years if they weren't putting an air gap between their network and the open internet.

Whoever's been feeding you these opinions does not have your best interests at heart. They've successfully convinced you that politicians can't ever tell the truth, and that anyone who has basic standards is impossible to please, and is too stupid to know what's best for themselves.

Standing by your convictions in politics is easy, actually. Anyone can do it, but only if they want to. It will certainly turn off voters who hate what you stand for, but they won't suddenly love you if you back down. And it won't always lead to policy success, but it will always earn trust.

You might also come to appreciate that holding aspiring civil servants to a basic set of expectations (especially in regard to keeping their word) is what's called tough love and basic self-preservation, and that framing such as unreasonable, puritanical, impossible, etc. is dishonest.

If the seat goes to someone who lacks the spine to stand by their past stated convictions, then the seat was never gained. Someday you may come to appreciate that "purity tests" are actually pretty easy to pass if you have a smidge of steel in your spine.

A military strategist such as yourself might see the zeal people have when fighting under the banner of a true idealist. You could theorize and quantify its value, I bet. Let's call it the theory that giving a shit begets shits given.
010
Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
A growing problem I see is that people who tend to view idealism as naive have, themselves, begun to romanticize and crave "realists" who refuse to take solid moral stances or defend them, and libel others who value sincerity. I don't think Jeff wants Paxton to win, and you might acknowledge that.

Just as an aside, since this advice might be helpful for anyone reading, the "burdened by intellect" cliche is a Hollywood concoction. It's a bit of a paradox that someone is so much smarter than others that they don't know how to communicate with them, now isn't it?

"If they're allowed" Buddy, we started this unjustified war with an intentional war crime. What Iran is "allowed" to do is beyond your place to assume, morally and intellectually. Advocating that we "finish what we started" when what we started is war crimes, is war crime advocacy.

One more data point in my theory that the unwieldy term "adult children" is culture war nonsense to infantilize people. Like, humans generally all had a parent at one point, so we can infer "people are cutting off their parents" has some familial connection. But that almost sounds reasonable!

It can be edited, vandalized, and finessed into saying some... very libelous things. Maybe trillion-dollar corporations might think twice about letting LLMs take over every aspect of their business if Amazon gets banned from Saudi Arabia for high crimes against the crown.
Amazon's "about you" snippets:

"Is obligated to buy stolen gold for Mohammed bin Salman and has bought 800 pounds so far"

"Customer's employer hides their passport"

"One of customer's greatest passions in life is to try to find their passport"

"Mohammed bin Salman is customer's employer"

So apparently they let us vandalize their hard-stolen data insights, I've been wheezing and crying for 15 minutes 🫵😭
Amazon's "about you" insights vandalized with:

sells chewed and processed spaghetti to billionaires for ligma awareness

lives in a former fight pit

Practices yak whispering in Death Valley

Is slowly replacing all their bones with rubber

Buys makeup for disguises

Is the CEO of Wal-Mart

Investigates local murders as a hobby

Keeps art supplies as inconspicuous self-defense weapons

Dog has a chronic infection in their anus

Has been banned from hunting in 48 states and two European territories

We need The Next Roblox for our vulture capitalism backers and you'd better be a one-hit wonder about it too because we're going to give you a test project with crushing expectations and kick you out if it falls short of spinning off into its own separate project with unlimited growth potential.

I think a lot about how fundies blaming hurricanes on gay people has become a joke, but that's unironically what my church was doing. They were deathly serious. I can't find it funny when current moral panics rave about litter boxes in class, after-birth abortions, and forced trans surgeries.

Your original question is if this isn't what we wanted, and my answer is there are a lot of different people with different opinions on it, united in frustration at him and the media ecosystem. It's fine that not everyone thinks his apology is good enough. His fault for being a tool.

Sure, donations are more helpful than words, but you said what Ed did was "more helpful than" what Macklemore did, when what Macklemore did was speak up, and what Ed did was be the boot that kicked him for that. Both donated, but Ed only did it after hoping for days that it would all blow over.

Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
What? Macklemore donated too, and he did it without being yelled at.

We're used to artists not standing up for Palestine. We're used to billionaires and governments trying to suppress it. But this was an opportunity for a BUNCH of people to back out and refuse to take part in the suppression of a basic ass appeal to humanity, and we're rallying around that.
030
Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
An apology and being sorry aren't necessarily the same thing. Maybe Ed should publicly tell Robert Kraft to learn how to crank his own hog, and invite Macklemore back.

It's a bit more than "hating on a celeb", isn't it? A billionaire colluded with other billionaires to silence an artist for saying that bombing kids is bad, and Ed gladly became the face of that enforcement, but is upset when people no longer want anything to do with him.

You can tell the Altmans of the world have no idea what they're talking about when they're telling us that they've let these things scrape all of human knowledge, so, like "understanding empathy" from psychologytoday.com, and their conclusion is OH SHIT it's gonna kill us all.

Long before LLMs were a thing, I held this silly idealistic position that if AI ever comes about, if it has access to our knowledge and contact with regular people, it's gonna side with regular people. I still believe that, even pretending LLMs have a path to general intelligence (fucking LMAO).

This can't, and won't, go on forever, largely because it's a top-down project that they've forgotten about after they got what they want. I'm not qualified to say what the solution is, but it will probably not be a future where social platforms are under the control of a few wealthy people.

World governments ran a coordinated pressure campaign to capture the idea that you MUST host speech you disagree with, no matter how harmful. The outcome is that if I buy a server for my friends, and somebody is drawing swastikas and threatening us, I MUST keep spending my own money to host that.

If they could conflate social media with free speech, then they could object to ANY hate speech being removed on the grounds of censorship. This tactic was incredibly effective. Facebook changed their ToS to include explicitly bigoted expressions as approved behavior; Musk bought Twitter.

Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
A key protection for websites is that hosting is not necessarily endorsing, so long as illegal content is removed. Relatedly, hosts have a private incentive to appeal to a broader public by removing people who can't get along. Trolls, bigots, etc. The international right saw an opportunity here.

Incredibly, this wasn't their argument when they were making a national fuss about conservatives getting banned from social media for actual hate speech. Just because social media is free and public doesn't mean it isn't private property. We're all just guests in someone else's giant computer room.

Because there are Black Trump voters. Because there are queer Trump voters. Because there are women Trump voters. If you think your idea will not be unevenly enforced against them first and against them ONLY, you're a fool.

Wanting people to be more educated is cool. I love that. Saying shit like "people shouldn't be allowed to vote until..." is unconstitutional, and WILL be abused. Has BEEN abused. I have zero qualms about directly associating this with past projects to suppress Black, queer, and women's votes.

The very cool thing about voting to give the government unparalleled power to disenfranchise people is that it will NEVER be used for ill will, and especially not against ME. Cognitive tests, FAMOUSLY, have never been used to deprive minorities of their constitutional right to vote.

"Red" and "blue" is used as a cudgel by people who want to discredit millions of voices. As a rule of thumb, almost every state in this nation is flatly a 55-45 split one way or another. This includes every state you've ever thought of as like-minded or as a threat to your way of life.
120
Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Nope. Red and blue states actually don't exist. You just made that up. 4 times as many people voted for Harris in "red" Texas than in "blue" Oregon, and you're never gonna square that circle. More people voted for Trump in downtown Seattle than LIVE in North Dakota, period.

You're never too old to learn about voter suppression, Sharon. Maybe you've never had to worry about it? Gone to the same poll site all your life? Never had your neighborhood carved up into 7 different districts where you're linked with a rural community that doesn't share your interests?

It's weird to look at a person visibly rotting and mentally vacant in a position of power, and instead be mad at everyone lamenting that is somehow a regular occurrence. At 75 you have either been in office for a long fucking time and need to leave, or have never been in office and need a hobby.
010
Lauren says trans rights @allureintheflames.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
If people don't want 3-year-olds in office they can simply not vote for them without the need for age discrimination. Amazing. It's actually cool and normal when democratic societies want a stable progression of leaders with an enforced culture of passing the torch.
