Visited The Dirty Bottles pub in Alnwick. In 1725 The landlord was clearing up but after touching some dirty bottles in the window dropped down dead. His wife said they were cursed so they’ve not been touched since and the pub changed its name. #pub #strange #northumberland #History

There’s always a sadness when you finish a good book - the characters you’ve come to know and love are gone. In this case though there’s a few more in the series - the next one’s on order. Highly recommend Hiding the Past, by @nathandylangoodwin.bsky.social #Genealogy

Because of the size and flatness you don’t always get to see the shape of the Vale of York - this was taken at Garrowby Hill on the A166 as you descend down the Yorkshire Wolds. The flatness of the vale carved out by the last ice age 20,000 years ago.

On the 1939 pre-war UK register, if the female has a surname written over this is their subsequent married name. How did they acquire this information and how reliable is it? I've an example on the attached where Kathleen WALKER has MANN written over it? #Genealogy #GenHour #FamilyHistory
Kathleen Walker's entry in the 1939 Register which has the surname MANN writtten on it and WALKER crossed out.

Just spent the morning at Yardley cemetery in Birmingham looking for grave stones. It’s massive the cemetery- I’m glad I had some info before I went otherwise it would have been impossible. Shocking you have to pay £10 for each grave location though!
