The White Sox obviously have the Mandate of Heaven. I'm pretty sure they cursed the entire AL West to clear their path into a Wild Card spot and now through to the Divisional round. Cleveland, may God have mercy upon your soul.

The M's could've saved Houston from this embarrassment with one good month of baseball. We're sorry, Houston.

This Canucks game is amazing. So glad to have hockey to tide me over for the next Mariners season.

Going over Victor Robles' season and career it baffles me that he wasn't the regular right fielder vs. lefties all season. Had they simply not acquired either Refsnyder or Ward the team would've gotten so much more defensive and baserunning value, the bat would've been made up for.

Vargas appears to have taken the role in the bullpen Bazardo used to have and it's worked so far. Nice bullpen work tonight.

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

if bazardo pitches in coors he will give up three home runs, or one home run that goes 600 feet.

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

The next hitting prospect up -- I assume some time next season -- could well be OF Johnny Farmelo who ended the season with the AA Arkansas Travelers. A multi-tool player with speed, defense, and some pop, he put up a .251/.375/.436 slash w/ 17 HR and 41 SB (!!). Here's his final dinger of 2026.

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

How are the M's still only 5.5 games behind Houston? This division is a sick joke. The 'stros face a good Braves team next while the M's get the basement-dwelling Rockies. With some luck the Mariners could get within a game or two of the Astros by sweeping their two game series next week.

Every Laz PA is must-watch. Especially in this bandbox of a park.

020

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Even though it's off a terrible pitcher in a minor league park...Arroyo's first homer would've been out of any park in the league.

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

Nice first hit for Michael Arroyo. And first run!

040

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

If a pitcher in your bullpen put up these numbers over a month, would you drop him? 11.2 IP, 18 H, 4.63 HR/9, 7.71 ERA, 7.99 FIP You wouldn't? Well you must be Dan Wilson! 'Cause here's what Bazardo did the next month! 10.1 IP, 16 H, 3.48 HR/9, 7.84 ERA, 8.23 FIP

120

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

why has bazardo been allowed to ruin the end of this season. every time he pitches he blows it. he should've been sent down a month ago.

140

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

I can't NOT post Laz' first dinger at T-Mobile. I got to see this one in person and just like Lazaro I knew it was gone. We haven't had someone with this kind of pop from the left side since...ever? Griffey Jr.? As I feared he's whiffing nearly 50% of the time, but it's working so far.

Came to the game tonight to enjoy some Lazaro Montes and well that's going great.

040

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

Home debut for Laz Montes and it's also Kade Anderson's third start tonight. Smart of the M's to give us something to watch even if they are falling out of contention.

010

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

As a known Cole Young enjoyer I thought I'd delve into what's plaguing his bat lately. I won't bore everyone with all the details, but looking at pitch mix, plate discipline, and batted ball breakdowns on Fangraphs the issue becomes clear. Pitchers are respecting his bat and he hasn't adjusted.

120

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

In retrospect if the M's wanted a right-handed bat they should've simply called up Michael Arroyo. The "veteran platoon righty" experiment in which Taylor Ward is just the latest test subject has been an utter failure. And that's just the latest edition. They need to knock this shit off.

040

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

I'd be remiss if I failed to post Laz' debut dinger. Not just impressive distance, but on a 1-2 count to boot. I bet Olds was trying to get that one a bit lower down and out of the zone.

020

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Nice patience by Lazaro in his first MLB plate appearance. That's encouraging to see because he'll need to bring his plate discipline tool with him from the minor leagues in order to be effective.

051

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

It's happening, folks! The M's are rumored to be calling up Lazaro Montes. His power is not in question as he's hit 38 bombs this year, 13 with Tacoma -- this one being his most recent.

You see a lot of glib analysts repeating the line that "Americans just don't want EVs" without taking into consideration that the US auto buying experience is dominated by a network of extremely ignorant, Republican car dealers dependent on the kind of maintenance that EVs don't need.

I wonder if Dan Wilson learned something from leaving Kade Anderson in when he should've pulled him. All season he's tended to leave pitchers in one or two hitters too long. But that was the right time to pull Kirby even if he looked like he was ready to punch a baby when he left.

randy is going to drag this team kicking and screaming into the post-season

030

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

so i guess maybe don't go see if the chicken in the oven is ready after your team makes the second out in the ninth.

010

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

Lazaro Montes continues to impress with his ninth dinger as a Rainiers, 34th overall. Not as fun as his inside-the-parker yesterday but he had to go down to get this one and hit it a loooong way.

141

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

concerned this could encourage the hitters to relax after getting a run, but still...

000

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

In these dark times I'd like to highlight the performance of Cole "Lone Bright Spot" Young over the last month or so. His last 101 PAs his strikeout rate is less than 10%. This would be normal for a slap hitter, but he has 7 extra base hits in that time and a .160 ISO.

130

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

This really feels like the season is cooked. A lackluster series resulting in a sweep, seven games under .500 with 43 games left. The core hitters still showing only brief signs of life.

010

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

Ward shows Tampa what a real hit looks like after they dinked and dunked the bases loaded.

000

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

I'm now tracking the performance of the catching prospect the M's dealt for Jose Ferrer, by fWAR. Harry Ford: 0.4 José Ferrer + Mitch Garver: 0.3 Cal Raleigh: 0.7 This deal is looking worse every day.

200

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

With the Mariners being...the way they are I continue to look to our minor league system for hope. Michael Arroyo has managed to run an impressively-low K% of just 17.4 in his first 115 PAs in AAA. And he's run a .212 ISO as well. For a 21-year-old this is highly encouraging.

070

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

it's tough watching a team after they throw in the towel at the deadline. wait, i'm just now getting a message...

030

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

Oof, that's a rough lineup. Cal has the day off (day game after a night game) and so is Naylor in favor of righty Weston Wilson & SH Leo Rivas at 3B RF Taylor Ward R LF R. Arozarena R DH D. Canzone L CF J. Rodriguez R 2B Cole Young L 1B W. Wilson R C J. Pereda R 3B Leo Rivas S SS Colt Emerson L

Eduard Bazardo needs to be demoted to mop-up-time guy until he stops giving up dingers. Six homers in the last ten appearances. That's "is this guy a mole?" level bad. Or better yet send him to AAA and bring up the best RP in our system for a while.

000

Steve Alliston @allistonsteve.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

bazardo is just a homer machine lately

I finally figured out my oven air fryer and RIP my cholesterol level. I made wings, butterfly prawns, and tater tots for dinner. With veggie sticks, ranch and tartar sauce. Basically happy hour at home. (By "figured out" I mean I learned you don't use a tray, but a basket to allow even airflow.)
